Random website pages still indexing when coming soon page is active

    Hi there

I have a website being developed that is now using the Rank Math SEO coming soon feature (and an Elementor page) instead of the CMP plugin, but now google is indexing other random pages.

    Do you know why?

The other indexed pages still go to the Coming Soon page, but it doesn’t look good as it has a different meta description for them and you can see the slug (e.g. /men or /women).

  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with the indexing of random pages on your website while the Rank Math SEO coming soon feature is active. It seems like Google is indexing these pages despite the coming soon page being active.

This issue could be due to a few reasons, such as the presence of a noindex tag on the coming soon page or the way the coming soon feature is configured. To resolve this, you can check if the noindex tag is properly set for the coming soon page and ensure that the Rank Math SEO settings are correctly configured to prevent indexing of these pages.

If you have already checked these settings and are still facing issues, please provide more details about your Rank Math SEO settings and the configuration of the coming soon feature so that we can assist you further.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we’ll do our best to help you resolve this issue.

Everything looks configured correctly to me. I am wanting the Coming Soon page indexed, but no other pages/Elementor templates until the site is launched. The site uses Elementor and WooCommerce FYI. Please let me know why this would be occurring.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

The domain you have shared is showing suspended. Please refer to the screenshot in the sensitive data section.

Let us know when the site is accessible so we can check the URLs and their robots meta.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

We tried to check your website but it is showing an Account Suspended error. Please check the screenshot in the sensitive data section for your reference.

However, please make sure you’ve set the coming soon pages to noindex: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-noindex-urls/

Once done, please allow Google some time to recrawl your pages and they will be automatically removed from SERPs.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.

The web page is online now

    Hello,

We’ve checked the domain and it seems that the URLs that were indexed are old ones. Also, Rank Math is not present in the page’s source code.

Please note that it may take some time for Google and search engines to deindex old URLs if they are already showing on the search results pages.

In this case, you can utilize the page removal tool in your Google Search Console account to remove them

Thank you. I have requested removal of https://[domain]/example-product

I am using CMP for coming soon page now instead of Elementor coming soon feature which seems to help. I also set all post types to no index in Rank Math for now. But how do I allow the new coming soon page that uses CMP to be indexed? It isn’t a page or Elementor template – it does have its own SEO settings, but will Rank Math override that somehow?

Also can you check my sitemap. It isn’t showing product categories now even though XML sitemap is turned on for it, and all sitemaps under the main index one now go to a 404 page. I will add the index sitemap URL to the sensitive data area now for you.

    Hello,

Checking the current coming soon page, it seems that it has its own SEO meta tags so it is possible that Rank Math has no access to that page.

However, when it comes to Google, you also need to wait for Google to update the old coming soon page to the new one on the SERP.

As for your sitemap issue, please follow the steps below:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

    3. Apply the following filter code to your site.

    add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');

Here’s how you can add filter to your WordPress site:https://rankmath.com/kb/wordpress-hooks-actions-filters/

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.

That is so complex for such a seemingly simple task…
I did the sitemap cache flush and exclusion of the sitemap from Cloudflare cache, but I don’t feel comfortable adding the hook/code to the functions.php file – why is it even needed?

Are all of the instructions you provided purely to help during the Coming Soon phase, and need to be reversed or changed again when the site is live??

Google is now showing the correct meta details for the site, and the incorrect page is gone as I requested removal from Google.

However the sitemaps (using the link(s) I sent you) are still not showing product categories.. that’s all I need fixed isn’t it? You guys have confused me even further with all of this manual work and not explaining what each step is actually doing/for…

    Hello,

Your site is in the coming soon mode, which could be why the subsitemaps are not working. For the issue with the product categories sitemap, please navigate to WP Dashboard > Rank Math SEO > Titles & Meta > Product Categories > Enable the Robots Meta option > Set it to Index.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.

I can’t do that at the moment because I don’t want my site accessible or indexed yet. But I will try that when we are ready to launch soon and see if the sitemaps fix themselves. Thank you.

    Hello,

Sure, let us know how this goes.

Meanwhile, please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you have other questions to assist you further.

    Looking forward to helping you.
