Questions regarding migrating from Yoast

We are rebuilding an old website which uses WordPress. We decided to start with a fresh install of WordPress and have some questions about converting from Yoast and migrating the data over to our new site.

I would like to first ask about converting the old version of the site over to Rank Math.

When we activate the Rank Math plugin on the old site will all the Yoast fields that are filled out in each post be moved into Rank Math’s equivalent fields correctly?

    Please let me know.

  • Hello,

I apologize for the inconvenience you’re facing. When you activate the Rank Math plugin on your old site, you can easily import the data from Yoast SEO to Rank Math SEO using the Setup Wizard. This will ensure that all the Yoast fields filled out in each post are moved into Rank Math’s equivalent fields correctly.

You can follow the steps outlined in our knowledgebase article on how to migrate from Yoast SEO to Rank Math SEO to seamlessly import all your data.

If you encounter any issues during the migration process, please feel free to reach out to our support team directly from here, and we’ll be happy to assist you further.

    Sincerely,
    Rank Math Support Team

    Hello,

Yes, everything mentioned in the checkbox and the data you have set from Yoast should be ported once you have migrated to Rank Math

    Looking forward to helping you.

Thank you for the reply. Another question we have is If we do the migration to Rank Math on our old website will the export functionality move all the data over to our new website correctly?

    Hello,

Yes, if you migrate your data from Yoast to Rank Math on your old site, the same data will be pushed to your production/live site.

This way, you can test first if everything’s already migrated unlike doing it directly on your live/new site.

    Looking forward to helping you.

I do not think you understand my last question. We do not have a staging site setup. We would be using the export tool to export the data from the old site to the new site. Will all the post/page data migrate correctly if we do it this way?

    Hello,

    Sorry about the confusion earlier.

You can use Rank Math to export your settings from the old site and re-use them on the new site. This covers all the Titles and Meta settings that you configure in Rank Math. It covers all the settings that you would find in the Rank Math SEO > General Settings section. Please follow this guide to export your settings: https://rankmath.com/kb/import-export-settings/

Rank Math also lets you export your meta data like the focus keyword and SEO Title you’ve used on posts, pages, and custom post types to a CSV file. You can follow this guide to export and also import the CSV files: https://rankmath.com/kb/editing-seo-meta-at-scale/#csv

However, please note that the option to export Meta Data Using CSV is a PRO feature. You can purchase the PRO plugin here.

Unfortunately, Rank Math does not have a feature that allows you to export Post and Pages. To export those, you can use the native export tool present in WordPress.

To export posts and pages, please follow this guide: https://wpengine.com/support/sync-new-post-and-pages/#Export_Content

This will export your pages, post include the URL structure

Hope this helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

Thank you for choosing Rank Math.

I think you are still misunderstanding. We already exported our posts…

    Our plan is
    1) install and configure rank math on the old site. (in this step we will be converting from Yoast to Rank Math).
    2) export Rank Math settings and meta tags from old site.
    3) import Rank Math settings and meta tags into new site.

Will this plan be possible and migrate everything correctly?

    Please let me know.

    Hello,

    Apologies about that.

Yes, it is possible to migrate your settings and meta tags from the old site to the new site and your plan is still on course.

    From your query,

    1) install and configure rank math on the old site. (in this step we will be converting from Yoast to Rank Math).

It seems we already answered that here earlier.

2/3) export Rank Math settings from old site /import Rank Math settings into new site

Yes, you can export the Rank Math setting on the old site and import the settings to the new site.

2/3) export Rank Math meta tags from old site/import Rank Math and meta tags into new site.

Yes, it is possible to export and import your meta tags like meta title, meta description, etc with Rank Math. You can do this by exporting

The option to export and import meta tags is only available when using the PRO version.

However, following the steps above will ensure you have a seamless migration from the old site to the new site.

Let us know how it goes.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.
