Property Duplicated in Search Console

    Hi,

Loving RankMath so far, although I seem to have an issue in Search Console.

I set up a Domain Property in Search Console and verified it, the same as I do for all of my sites, but after a few days, a second property for the same site appeared in Search Console.

I deleted the second property but again, after another few days, it re-appeared.

Any ideas of why this is happening? I wasn’t sure if it is something in RankMath that it causing the second property to be added?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lee

  • Ya same thing hapenned with me. I decided to keep both the properties in my Saerch Console. But my question is , whether to keep the new property or the old one in RM.

    Hi Pranali,

Did you add the domain to Search Console as a domain property or did you use the HTML verification code?

I added the domain into Search Console manually as a domain property and obviously verified it with a TXT record in the DNS, so I have not used the HTML verification process.

So, when I go into Rankmath > General Settings > Webmaster Tools I don’t have the HTML code to input into the Search Console field.

If however, I go to Rankmath > General Settings > Analytics I can see both properties (the domain verified one and the newly appeared one) in the Search Console Site dropdown.

So I’m confused and pretty sure that Rankmath is creating the duplicate property.

I would really like to hear from the Rankmath team on how this works and how Rankmath treats domain properties added to Search Console that haven’t used the HTML verification process.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

By duplicated properties do you men the same versions(https/https & www/non-www) of your site or are they different versions?

Please upload some screenshots of this to https://imgbb.com and share the URLs in the sensitive section so we can check this.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Michael.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have uploaded a screenshot of the two accounts I can see in Search Console using the sensitive data facility.

As I mentioned above, I added the domain to Search Console as a Domain Property which should catch all versions (www, non www, https and http).

Around three days later, another https://domain.co.uk property appeared, (which the domain version is technically correct) however, it is a duplicate of the domain property.

I deleted this property and then another 3 days later it re-appeared. Obviously I do not require the https://domain.co.uk version as I have already got the Domain Property in place which is verified via DNS.

Hope that helps, I look forward to your reply.

    Hello,

I wouldn’t worry about that. Google adds those when you verify the domain but it shouldn’t cause any issue for you nor your sites.

    Looking forward to help you.

    Hi Alberto.

Thanks for the reply although I’m not sure I agree that Google adds an extra property when you verify a domain.

I have over 70 sites hosted for clients and all of them are using Search Console. They are all verified in different ways but at least 50 are domain properties verified using DNS.

I have never seen Google add an extra property before, until this new site, which, coincidentally is the first site I’ve used Rankmath on.

My concern is that it will be flagged for duplicate content.

Can you confirm WHY this is happening, please?

    Kind regards,

    Lee

    Hello,

How are you verifying your site? Are you using Rank math tool to verify or are you verifying directly via the Google Search Console?

Could you please disconnecting Rank math search Console from your domain by heading to Rank math > General Settings > Analytics. You can also disable the analytics module temporarily in Rank math dashboard then head back to your GSC, remove and verify your site again. If the duplicate domain is not added automatically, then please go back to your WordPress and enable the analytics module again. You can then go through the verification process and check if this is where the second domain is added.

Please note that with the revamped analytics module, Rank math automatically verifies your site on GSC(not as a domain property) while connecting in Rank math > Analytics. This is likely where the second domain is coming from.

If you do confirm the case above is what is happening, you can remove the current verification and use Rank math automatic verification which makes the process easy for your users.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi Michael.

Thanks for coming back to me and the explanation, which makes sense.

I have disconnected Rank math search console from my domain in Rank math > General Settings > Analytics and I have removed the duplicate property in Search Console.

I’ll give it a few days and update you but hopefully, that sorts the issue.

    Thanks again.

It has been 5 days now so just thought I’d update the thread. I didn’t connect Rankmath to Search Console in Rank math > General Settings > Analytics and I have no duplicate property so that has definitely fixed the issue.

It’s unfortunate that if I have sites in Search Console that are domain properties, I lose the ability to use the Analytics functionality of Rankmath, but not the end of the world.

Would be great if you could sort this.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello Lee,

Could you please update to to the latest version of Rank math release and let us know if connecting Google services still comes up with tow properties?

Please note that having them appearing on your GSC should not affect your site functionality and therefore shouldn’t worry you. Having the domain verified as using URL prefix method makes it easy for Rank math to fetch data from your GSC to the analytics module.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Michael,

I have now re-connected Google Services via RankMath. It usually takes a few days for the second property to appear so I’ll give it that time and report back to let you know if it still does it.

    Kind regards,

    Lee

    Hi Michael,

I’ve just checked and it has actually added the second property immediately.

The data is also different (viewing over the last 3 months)

    Domain Property
    Impressions: 9.47k
    Clicks: 11

https Property (added when I connect Google Services via Rankmath)
    Impressions: 2.31k
    Clicks: 0

    Kind regards,

    Lee

    Hello,

The domain verification doesn’t allow for fetching the data required by Rank math analytics. This is why Rank math automatically adds the new property with which we can use to fetch the data from your Google console for the Analytics on your site in Rank math > Analytics module.

As previously noted this should not have any effect on any of your previous settings on your end.

    Hope this helps.
