  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

This case usually happens when the Redirect Attachments option is enabled on your site. You can also test it by disabling that option, and the slug will work without the -2.

In this case, you can re-upload the media with a different file name (/page-name) or at least rename the attachment URL to a different slug to avoid getting the -2 or -3 in the URL.

Let us know how this goes.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for your response and sorry for my late one.

If I understand correctly, this situation is due to activating the redirect attachments options, which is recommended in order to redirect WordPress-generated media pages to the original post?
If I disable it, I won’t have this new IRL with the number in my slug? however I will have media URLs that might be seen as thin content, right?

Assuming I understood it correctly, I have 2 more questions:

    1. Do those redirected slugs with the #num might impact my SEO? I do see more of those URLs in my search console data with growing numbers of impressions.
    2. There is no option of keeping the redirects, without having the numbers, right?

    Thank you very much

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Please disregard the attachment redirect option, as that happens when the actual slug of the page is getting saved with -2 or -3 in their URLs.

However, upon carefully reviewing your case, the numbering is only showing on your GSC report, and they are basically the same page, but with different anchors on the page.

Those anchor links are coming from your Table of Content links. If you check the URLs, the headings are generated with a count number at the end.

Moreover, they should not affect your SEO and you may gain some benefits for those. It also increases your Jump links to improve your click-through rate tremendously.

    Hope that helps.
