If you have enabled automatic redirection of 404 pages to your homepage then this would cause the error.
Could you please do the following:
1. Head over to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks
Hit the save button once.
2. Go to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings
Hit the save button once.
That should fix the issue.
If it doesn’t, please do let us know so we can look at this further.
hello there, i tried your suggestions; and there was a 404 redirect to the main page.
i fixed that; BUT, google still can’t find the post_tag-sitemap
i get the same error message as above.

Hi Raj,
If your tags are set to noindex, the sitemap will not show up.
You can check from WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Tags.
Let us know.
the issue was resolved. I had to do a reinstall; and, this time it worked.
