Hi, I’m having some trouble manually updating the SEO titles of some of my blog posts and pages. After I update the SEO title in each post/page and click “Update,” the SEO title reverts to the default format set in RankMath’s global settings.

Can you please help me figure out how to make these changes stick?

    Thank you,
    Erica

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Please check if you are using a Firewall, as it may prevent saving the changes.

If you are using a Firewall, please whitelist this route:
    /wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateMeta

Whitelisting the route should fix the issue.

You can check this link for more information:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/meta-data-not-saving/#firewall

I hope this helps. Looking forward to helping you.

Hi Anas, thank you for your help. I whitelisted that route and all of the other RankMath routes listed here: https://rankmath.com/kb/whitelist-rank-math-in-wordfence/

Unfortunately, the post title/meta is still not saving.

    Hello,

Please take a backup of your .htaccess file and replace it with the default WordPress .htaccess file. You can get the file here: https://wordpress.org/support/article/htaccess/

You can follow this guide to edit the .htaccess file:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/edit-htaccess/

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I can check that the updateMeta route is still getting blocked on your site:

Since you have already whitelisted the route in WordFence, please get in touch with your host and ask them to whitelist the route in the server-side firewall.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to your update.

    Thanks.

Hi there, thanks for your reply.

I’ve gotten in touch with my host and they have whitelisted the route. Unfortunately, the issue is still happening and changes to the meta title aren’t saving.

    Hello,

I logged in to your website and checked the settings.

I was not able to replicate the issue.

The SEO details are saved without any issues.
(Check screencast in the sensitive data section)

Please clear the website cache and check again on your end.

If the issue is only happening on some specific post, please share the URL so we can check.

We look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

I’ve cleared my browser cache and the site cache, but I’m still experiencing the issue. Your recording showed making changes on a new post, but I’m having trouble editing the SEO title on an existing post. I’ve linked a screen recording in the sensitive information area.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

It seems like the updateMeta route is still blocked.
    blocked

In this case, you should ask your web host why the files are still showing a 403 error. You can share this screenshot with them.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    From WP Engine Support:

“My colleague previously configured a cache exclusion rule to avoid any conflicts, and now I’ve forced allowed this path from the web rules https://my.wpengine.com/installs/ecarnohan/wren on our side all the possible permissions are enabled excluding an IP, is there an IP that needs to be whitelisted if you please?”

I’m sorry – I’ve decided to go back to using Yoast because of this issue. I’ve done everything I can with my hosting provider to whitelist the appropriate routes. I appreciate your help, though!

    Hello,

We regret to see you go.

403 errors tells you that a certain route is forbidden for access to your website. The host understands the request but it was blocked. This may also be due to ISP so if you are using a VPN, please also try disabling it and see if it works.

With that said, please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
