Hi there,
I recently switched to Rank Math and have been through to edit the social media sharing settings for Facebook to setup a separate OpenGraph description for Pinterest. Normally this should update the Rich Pins description but for some reason it is not working?
The website is at: https://www.individualobligation.com

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
I’ve taken a look at your page source and the same description is displayed on the meta title and the pin description like so:
Rich pin validator:
Could you please let us know the description that you expect?
Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
Hi there Michael,
Thanks for your response.
On this page is a better example: https://www.individualobligation.com/how-to-start-a-wordpress-blog/
I have set the social media / open graph description to:
“Learn how to start a blog the right way using WordPress. This blogging for beginners tutorial guide will show you step by step how to start your blog from scratch by picking the perfect blog:”However, if I use the Pinterest validator to check this page. It is pulling in:
“Learn how to start a WordPress blog in 2020 with the exact details of what you need to do before, during and after you start your new blog.”This usually only happens when Pinterest can’t see the OpenGraph data. The only difference I could spot with the previous plugin I was using is the OpenGraph tags were closed with “/>”. But looking at RankMath’s they are being closed with just “>”.
Is this correct? I am having trouble spotting any other reason why Pinterest isn’t able to see the Open Graph description.
Hello,
Could you try to change the post schema to Article instead of BlogPosting? BlogPosting is a subtype of Article Schema but since Pinterest doesn’t say explicitly it supports BlogPosting, try to change it and see if the issue is solved (if you are using a cache plugin, remember to empty it before checking the changes).
Looking forward to help you.
Hi there,
I have tried switching to the article schema and clearing the cache but Pinterest still doesn’t seem to be picking up the opengraph description in their validator.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting the support and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
There seems to be two different meta description appearing on your site: https://i.rankmath.com/iFUBLW
Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.
To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
Please let us know if you find the culprit.
Looking forward to helping you.
For some reason, the images didn’t attach. Please find the relevant screenshots here:

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Unfortunately I cannot replicate the issue with description from my end. We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/
We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hello,
Thank you for the follow up.
You are using a google authenticator security which is preventing me to go anywhere past the dashboard. Could you please help us or deactivate this for sometime while we look into your issue.
Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
Hi there,
I have disabled it, please try again?
Thanks
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
I have been able to replicate the issue. It seems pinterest is using the general post description and this affecting only that post. Allow us sometime to investigate issue further.
Also, I attempted to test your social settings, please check to ensure everything is as it should be.Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
Hi,
Since Pinterest prefers using Schema over OG, it was picking the description from the Article Schema description which was set to use your meta description. I have changed that to the OG Description you were using:
Now the description in Pinterest is showing correctly:
Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
Hi Todd,
Thanks for the response, and yes this does seem to be working.
