    Hello,
We have been using Yoast SEO for years on our WordPress websites and decided to start using Rank Math.

On a new website, we are getting a PHP error in the admin stating: Constant FS_METHOD already defined

Do you have a solution for the issue?

    Please let us know.
    Thank you.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Could you please confirm if you have already tried reinstalling Rank Math? Please also check your website for Rank Math’s requirements for installation at this link:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/requirements/

If the issue still persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,
Yes, Rank Math is installed properly and we have check marks on all the requirements. WP login info has been sent, we do not have FTP open on the server.
    Thanks.

    Hello,

I logged in to your website and checked some pages. I could not see that notice.

Could you please let us know on which pages you are seeing that notice?

Also, it is possible that you left the WP Debug mode turned on? Please turn it offer to get rid of this notice.

It is not an error. It is just a notice that will go away after you turn the debug mode off in your wp-config.php file.

I hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,
The PHP error is shown in the Query Monitor, debug mode is not active.

Is there a way for us to attach a screen capture?

This PHP error is on the few websites we have Rank Math installed, and the PHP error only comes up when Rank Math is active.
    Thanks.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the update.

We wanted to investigate this issue further, but it seems that our IP was blocked. Could you please check? I’ve attached a screenshot in the sensitive data section.

You can also use this tool to attach a screenshot link.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,
Please include your IP address in the sensitive data so we can whitelist.
    Thanks

    Hello,

    Thank you for the update.

Unfortunately, our team is distributed around the world, and we use dynamic IPs. So even if you whitelist one particular IP now, when we get back to the ticket, our IP might already have changed.

In this case, could you please confirm if we can do this via whitelisting countries? If so, please open access to India, Portugal, and the Philippines.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,
    Ok, those countries are unblocked.
    Thanks.

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping in touch with us.

I was able to see the PHP error you are referring to. We have however identified this issue and our development team is checking on this and possibly fix it in a future update.

Please check this support thread for the same issue: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/php-notice-constant-fs_method-already-defined-in-wp-config-php/

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,
Is removing “define (‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’);” from the wp-config.php file going to cause any other errors/issues to our websites after that is removed?

If we remove from the Rank Math plugin, will we have to remove “define (‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’);” from the plugin each time the plugin has an update?

Where is “define (‘FS_METHOD’, ‘direct’);” in the Rank Math plugin?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us

Usually, FS_METHOD forces the filesystem method and allows the current user to edit or install files in your folder. Generally, you should only change this if you are experiencing update problems.

With Rank Math, we only call this function under the helpers - class-wordpress.php

Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
