I have everything enabled for it and all my post have featured image in webp but that shouldn’t be a problem since Facebook supports it. but whenever I try to share that post in factbook for desktop it populates logo and mobile it populates the correct featured image and when I used the Facebook debug tool i get this error message Inferred Property
“The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.”

I went back to the free Yoast plugin and this problem went away. Why does this problem happen on rank math I found out a lot of people are having this same issue

Did some testing and only after adding a jpg image it shows the OG:image but then my question is how come you guys don’t support Webp format and yoast does? Seems like you guys are still far behind yoast in that aspect. Its a deal breaker for me until you guys get this resolved

    Hello,

max-image-preview:large is added in the robots meta tag on your homepage.

The webp format is not supported by og:image tag. The supported formats are png, jpeg, and gif.

You can read more about this here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/webmasters/#images

We do support webp images for the Twitter images as it is supported by Twitter.

    Hope this helps.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

That’s not true at all they do support it because everything works good with yoast and og:image tag is showing on website and if I test it by making a post on Facebook it show the featured image that’s in webp format

    Hello,

Rank Math does everything necessary for showing OpenGraph images to your website, as per OpenGraph guidelines.

    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/webmasters/#images says,

og:image:type– MIME type of the image. One of image/jpeg, image/gif or image/png

Now og:image:type does not need to be explicitly specified; but since the restriction to those MIME / file types is mentioned for that property, that should also mean you should not use WebP for og:image.

Also, I suggest you to follow best practices for guidance on how best to use og:image.

Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you.

This is a fix that has to be done on you’re end by allowing support for webp images 99% of the web now supports webp and googles best practice is uploading webp images only I cant upload in jpg since file sizes are much larger and that affect web speed in a negative way. Hope you guys can make a update to fix this since the future of images formats is gonna be webp

    Hello,

I checked with the devs and they confirmed they are planning on adding the support for WebP format for the OpenGraph tags. You can keep an eye on our changelog to get notified when we implement this in our plugin: https://rankmath.com/changelog/

For now, you will have to use a supported format or let Facebook fetch the image directly from your content and ignore the warning for the og:image tag.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch in case you need our assistance with anything else.
