OG Metadata Missing from Social but displayed in Source Code

    Hi,

We’ve recently started having an issue where our images are no longer displaying for sharing on social media and traced it back to see that none of our OG metadata seems to be recognized by LinkedIn, Facebook, etc., even though the metadata appears to be displaying fine in the page source code, right after the <head>. We’ve followed all of the troubleshooting from your webpage, to no avail, which has brought us here.

This all worked fine for months for us, and we have made no major changes to our website recently, so we’re at a loss as to what happened here. We’re also, of course, very concerned with the effect on our SEO, and we cannot share any of our content effectively on social media until this is resolved.

All help here is much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Hello,

We are glad that the issue with the image preview is now resolved.

As for the incorrect dimensions, can you please let us know if you are using another plugin to crop the dimensions?

It appears that Rank Math wasn’t able to retrieve the updated size after the image had been processed and cropped.

With that said, for us to confirm this further, please renew or extend your temporary admin login URL for another 3 days.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi,

No, another plugin is not being used for the images. We are using the Large thumbnails built natively into WordPress which RankMath uses when a separate image isn’t uploaded for a post.

We did increase the Max Width for the Large thumbnails from the default setting of 1024 up to 1200, to match the recommended image sizes, but even when these were previously set to 1024, we noticed the exact same issue, where RankMath was still defining the meta property=”og:image:width” as a max of 800, with the proportional height.

The temp login still had a few days remaining, but we added a few more to give us some slack.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

We deeply apologize for the inconvenience.

Unfortunately, the temporary login URL still won’t work. We would like to share this with our developers to check further. Can you please extend the temporary admin login so they get to access it as well?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi,

The temporary login is still valid on our end, and our activity log does show a login event for the temporary user around the time of your last message here, on February 11, 2024 at 2:09:13.000 am. We also just tried the URL ourselves from an incognito window and we were able to use the login without any issue.

We did make one small tweak to our server security settings to see if that helped, as well. If you’re still not able to log in, are you seeing any specific error(s) on your side that can help us troubleshoot this further for you?

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Sorry for the unexpected delay and any inconvenience caused due to that.

The login link is working fine, and we have forwarded this to the developers. However, FTP logins are not working. Please share the working FTP details so we can check further and fix the issue on your site.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi,

We just confirmed again that the provided FTP credentials are working to log in – what error are you having with them exactly?

    Thanks.

    Hello,

This is the error we are getting when we attempt to sign in:

530 FTP Error usually indicates an incorrect username or password. Can you please double-check and confirm the username and password you share with us?

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We are looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

We just confirmed again to be extra certain, but the username and password are definitely still working. Are you trying to log in with the correct protocol? We just added a clarifying note about this to the sensitive data section.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

Could you please verify the FTP details still work, as we’re not able to access:

    Getting error:

    Response:	530 Login authentication failed
Error:	Critical error: Could not connect to server

See this attached image: FTP error image

We look forward to having this issue resolved.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

Yes, as we’ve noted and just tested again, the credentials are definitely still working. Can you confirm you’re using the correct protocol when trying to login, as we noted in the last sensitive data update? Using the wrong protocol for this user does seem to recreate similar login errors on our side.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Could it be possible that some IPs are blocked, I still ensured the right protocols but the login finally fails with error Response: 530 Login authentication failed
Do we need to specify the PORT?

If they made a great number of attempts with failed logins, there is a chance some IPs could have triggered brute force protection on the server. That could trigger a 15-minute block based on IP address.

Also, what country(s) are the login attempts coming from? We’ve added a temporary exemption already for PHL to our stricter server security restrictions by country, too, to avoid triggering other, faster IP blocks. Are there any other countries your team is working from that need temporary exemptions?

You should not need to specify the port, but you can. We’ll add that information to the Sensitive Data, too.

    Hello,

    Please whitelist India and Kenya

    Hi,

All set, exemptions added. Any bans triggered should clear up in either 15 minutes or max 24 hours, but we can also look for & clear specific IP bans manually if you’re trying to get someone in there sooner.

    Thanks!
