The nofollow domains setting doesn’t seem to apply nofollow to a list of domains I’ve pasted in (stripped https:// and www. etc.) All caches cleared etc.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

This feature works as expected on my end. I have performed some tests using the same external link that you are using but the “nofollow” attribute is added to the page source as shown below:
    IMG

Please ensure that you list the domain name in full eg domain.com without leaving out the .com part.
Additionally, please check for possible conflicts on your site by performing these steps: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Thanks for looking into it Michael, much appreciated.

If it’s working on your end, can I assume it’s related to caching or whatever on mine?

    Hi Stuart,

    Thanks for the follow up.

Yes it is possible that this could be as a result of some caching on your server or there could be another plugin that is filtering the links added to your site.
Please disable any caching plugins and check whether the issue will still be reproduced.

    Thank you.

Cache plugin (wp-rocket) disabled and still not seeing the nofollow tag on my end, even in incognito mode and different browsers.

    Hello,

Where are you checking the tags?

They are added on a fly when the page loads.

So, you are not locked to using our plugin forever and can also change the NoFollow behavior whenever you want.

With that said, it is not recommended to use NoFollow tags. You can check the following article for the same:
    https://www.searchenginejournal.com/googles-john-mueller-no-benefit-to-marking-all-outbound-links-as-nofollow/

    Hope that helps.

Checking source code in google chrome.

If they are added ‘on the fly’ does Google treat them as regular no-follow?

I’m having to remove specific dofollows and making them nofollow to recover a google penalty, so the list I pasted in hopefully should work in Google’s view, seeing them as nofollow.

    HI Stuart,

    Thanks for the follow up.

Yes Google will treat them as regular nofollow since the attribute will be added everytime the spiders crawl your content.
I can also suggest that you install the following Mozilla Firefox add on that can help in detecting nofollow links in your content: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nofollow-advanced/

I hope this info helps. Thank you.

Thanks Michael, installed firefox and the addon, still shows the links in the article as follow – there’s no red box around them?

    Hello,

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

Okay, so update. My developer looked into it.

The wording on the plugin settings misled me a bit, where checking the ‘nofollow all external domains’ had to be set to ‘yes’ to get the domain list options working. The wording led me to believe that all domains would be nofollowed irregardless of the domain list.

    Hopefully that makes sense?

    Hi Stuart,

    Thanks for the follow up.

I am sorry that the labels misled you, I will pass this feedback to our developers so that we can make some changes in a future update.
Since you have this working now, I am going to mark this as resolved.
Feel free to contact us should any other issues come up. Thank you.
