Hello Rankmath, Google isn’t showing any sort of meta description for most of my posts. How to know if there’s any conflict between plugins or any problem? I’d be glad if you could assist me.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

    1. First of all, assuming that you have already changed the SEO Meta Title and Meta Description with the help of Rank Math:
    <u>Add a Meta Description in Classic Editor:</u>
    meta in classic

<u>Add title and description in Gutenberg:</u>
    meta in gutenberg

    2. Then, ensure that this is the setting in the Schema tab if the Schema Markup module is enabled on your website:
    schema values

To reiterate, the Schema title must show %seo_title% and the description should show %seo_description% – this will ensure your SEO title and SEO Description that you set up via Rank Math can also be used for your Schema details.

    3. The next step is to check if your title/description is properly set up in the page source:
    page source

You can use this tool for the same as well: https://www.heymeta.com/

    4. If it matches your settings, then you must check if Google has seen the changes already or not.

For that, please check when the Google cache was updated for that page:
    a. cache
    b. cached

If the cache date is from before adding the new meta description, then you just have to wait for Google to re-crawl and re-index the page with the new info. If the date is after you made the changes, then you just have to wait it out and there is no further input needed from your end.

Do note that if everything’s fine and Google still decides to show a different meta title/description for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

Here are some of the common reasons Google might not use the meta description you provided:
The meta description is not relevant or useful (ie, just a collection of keywords).
The exact same meta description is provided across a large number of pages.
The meta description doesn’t match what the user is searching for, but other content on the page does.

There is a whole article dedicated to this on SearchEngineJournal:
    https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-offers-suggestions-for-avoiding-meta-description-rewrites/359884/

Here is an example showing Google changes title depending on the keyword used:
    description
    &
    description 2

The best you can do is optimize your meta tags to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know.

    Hello,

Thank you for the swift response. I went through your suggestions and found that everything was as you mentioned. I even checked using Heymeta.com and that too was as expected.

All of my posts are indexed but almost all of them don’t have any meta description (not even Google’s auto generated). I’ve mentioned samples in the sensitive section.

I’d be glad if you could suggest me anything that can fix the issue.

    Hello,

    Thank you for following up.

I’ve also checked your site using this Tool, and it seems that you have already set up your meta title and description for your pages and posts. And in Google search results, it still shows different metadata.

In this case, you just have to wait and give Google some time to re-crawl and re-index your website with the new information.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

I’ve been waiting for Google to update the metadata for previous posts from more than a month. The post I published today also got indexed without meta description. I didn’t change anything from previous posts and they were all as they are now. They’ve proper meta description (as I believe).

Nothing improves and meta description isn’t being updated. This has bothered me a lot.

However, I appreciate your effort. Thank You!

    Hello,

I checked your recently published post and I could find the meta description set by Rank Math in the source code of that post. (Screenshot in sensitive data section)

The meta settings on your page source seem to be configured correctly. Could you please login into your search console and check if there are any coverage errors?

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello,

I checked at the search console and couldn’t find coverage issue. Single issue was found which was not related to posts page.

I have added a screenshot. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

    Thank you for following up.

Upon further investigating, it seems that you have set the Max Snippet to 1. Please refer to the screenshot in the Sensitive Data section.

The advanced robots meta snippet value is used to modify the number of characters for the snippets provided by the plugin. -1 is the default value, which means that the snippet entered in the plugin will be displayed as it is. It also means “No-limit” when counting elements.

However, I’ve already updated it for you, and with this change, you’ll just need to wait for the next recrawl of Google to see the description of that post in the search results. If this also happens to other posts/pages, please also ensure that the Max Snippet is set to -1.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.
