My sitemap is returning a 404 error

    Rank Math free

I just installed RankMath on a new site and my sitemap is returning a 404 error page. I’ve tried most of the suggestions I see here. Saving PERMALINKS, etc. Yet, I’m still having the problem.

    What could be causing this?

  • Hi Theodore,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

You do not have any content we can create sitemaps from.

Please add some content on your website and then the sitemaps will be created automatically.

    Hi Uzair,

I don’t think that’s the case. This is not the first time I’m using RankMath. I’ve installed it on a several new blogs in the past without any content, and the sitemap was created successfully. The most recent one was last month.

I have a step I always follow while creating a blog, I always do all the setup before adding content, and that includes creating Google Analytics and Google search console accounts. And the sitemap always work fine.

So, I believe something else must have been the problem.

    Hi,

I am not sure why it worked for you but this has always been the case with Rank Math.

If you do not have any content, no sitemap will be created since there is nothing to create sitemaps from.

Please create at least one post and mark it indexable to make the sitemap work.

Without any content, a sitemap serves no purpose.

    Hope that helps.
