Meta Description Not Counting After Publish

HI, when I add meta title, slug and description to a post in WordPress and Publish/Update the post the meta description gets greyed out and doesn’t count in the SEO score. But when leaving the post and going back to all posts the score is updated to the correct score. What is causing this to happen in the post?
    Thanks

  • Hello,

I’m sorry to hear about the issue you are facing with the meta description not counting in the SEO score after publishing or updating a post in WordPress. This behavior where the meta description gets greyed out and doesn’t count in the SEO score can be due to various reasons, such as caching or conflicting plugins.

To ensure that the meta description is properly counted in the SEO score after publishing or updating a post, please follow these steps:

    1. Make sure you have entered the meta description in the correct field. In Rank Math, you can add the meta description in the Description field under the General tab of the Rank Math metabox.

    2. After entering the meta description, click the Update button to save the changes.

    3. If the issue persists, try clearing your website cache and browser cache to rule out any caching issues.

    4. Check for any conflicting plugins by temporarily deactivating other plugins one by one and checking if the issue persists after each deactivation.

If after following these steps the issue still persists, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from our support team will further assist you in resolving this issue.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

This usually happens if you’re using a custom post type (not the default WordPress “Post”) without the editor support where our plugin can’t update the preview correctly. Could you please confirm if that’s the case?

If so, you may need to enable the preview and add editor support for all your custom post types.

Here’s a sample image where you can enable it if you’re using the CPT UI plugin

Let us know how this goes.

HI Reinelle, yes that seems to sort the problem with the meta description not being added to the score. Although it does seem to have downgraded the score from what it previously was. But seems to have worked.

    Hello,

    We are glad that helped.

Regarding the SEO score, Please head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Status & Tools > Database Tools, and from there click on the button “Recalculate Score”, and wait for it to process and see if that helps to resolve the issue.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.
