As you are using the NGINX server, if the Rank Math sitemaps are not working properly, you need to add the following code to your configuration file.
# START Nginx Rewrites for Rank Math Sitemaps
rewrite ^/sitemap_index.xml$ /index.php?sitemap=1 last;
rewrite ^/([^/]+?)-sitemap([0-9]+)?.xml$ /index.php?sitemap=$1&sitemap_n=$2 last;
# END Nginx Rewrites for Rank Math Sitemaps
If you are not sure, you can ask your web host to add these rewrite rules.

No, it is not compulsory to add the code.
If the sitemap is loading on sitemap_index.xml URL, you don’t need to add these rules.
If the sitemap is not loading on that URL, go to domain.com?sitemap=1. If your sitemap loads, then it means Rank Math is able to successfully generate the sitemap of your website but, it is unable to rewrite the sitemap to sitemap_index.xml page.
Also, the notice is static, it will not go away even after following the steps. That is there to remind users that if the sitemap is not working, they should follow those instructions.
