Make term primary

#783501
  • Good morning
I have more than 20,000 articles for which Google Search Console tells me that there is a redirection problem.
These are somewhat old articles whose category no longer exists. I used an SQL query to put the “actualités” categories on each of the articles.
However, for Google Search Console to take the modification into account, the category must be marked “Make term primary” and valid
Do you have a request to do this?
    thanks in advance

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with the redirection problem in Google Search Console for your articles. To address this issue and make the category “actualités” primary and valid for all your articles, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open the Post/Page/Product in your WordPress dashboard.
    2. Choose the “actualités” category from the list of available categories in the sidebar of your editing post screen.
      select categories
    3. Set the “actualités” category as the primary category by choosing the Category radio button in the case of the Classic Editor or selecting it from the drop-down list in the Block Editor.
Set Primary Category in Classic editor
select primary category in Block editor

By following these steps, you can mark the “actualités” category as the primary category for your articles, which should help resolve the redirection problem in Google Search Console.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Posts and from there make sure the Categories is selected for the Primary Taxonomy option:

For more details on the Primary Taxonomy, you can check this URL: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-choose-a-primary-category/

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello and thank you
However my question concerns the old articles (20,000) and a SQL query request to select “actualités” as the “term primary” – Currently for the old ones they are classified in the “actualtiés” category but not checked with “term primary”…..
    thanks

    Hello,

The bot was correct in its response. To make the “actualités” category the primary term, you will have to go into each post and select it as the primary category. However, since you have many posts, an alternative solution would be to remove all categories except “actualités” from those posts. When a post has only one category, that category automatically becomes the primary one. Just make sure that you have set Categories as your primary taxonomy, as my colleague suggested earlier.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
