Long indexing / No visibility Google News

  • Hi everyone,
    I hope you are fine,

I don’t know if i am in the right place, because, I think it’s not (just) a Rank Map problem. I come to you for two relatively related problem: a slowness of indexing but most importantly, a lack of visibility on Google News.

First, let me situate the context:

    • We had already a problem in march (but NOT about Google News, for the website in generally, probably for few things, between the March Core Update, plugin…)
    • French media (mainly gaming news)
    • WordPress 5.2.3
    • Major plugin : Rank Math / WP Rocket
    • Sitemap : https://www.actugaming.net/sitemap_index.xml
    • The site have an AMP version (for all articles like review, news…)
    • Don’t worry about the mobile speed displayed on Google pagespeed : (1. We do few tests like cache plugins etc… impact the score and 2. habitually, the site is fluid for its size)
    • Example of structured data: http://bit.ly/2nrPQ0t
    • No major errors, no penalties on Search Console
    • So, since March, we are indexed again (in Google Search), but it takes time. When we published articles, its come only few hours later on Google. The problem extends randomly to positioning. For example, we were ranked in top 5 on a request, 5 days later, we went to the 50th position, without significant change – or change on the side of competition.

This fall is a first important thing. If you have any clue, please, tell me.

But, now, the most important – and another problem : Google News. As a media, visibility on Google News is a priority for us – you know, the most important. Last year, we were still regularly put in front and it was a good part of our traffic.
Since, visits from Google News have dropped and indexing of articles takes more and more time. Worse still, we are never in the box “Featured” (In the top in english ?). This one :

      featured

So, I know that 1. yes, Google selects the most relevant articles 2. the fatest 3. and a little random way. But we have been tracking our articles for many month (so +1000) and none appeared on the front page. Yes, none.

And that, no matter the subject : A very competitive keyword, low competitive, when we are the first, or with the most content. So, the question is total. Knowing that we find there sites ranked better… and really less than us. Like an impression that something is wrong.

Yet, we are on Google News, but only here : http://bit.ly/2mWoP4U
We respect all the criteria, URL, author, categories, the number of articles published, content, linking, all.

Do you have any clue ? That’s really important for us.

I take this opportunity to show the partnerdash, some hesitation on how is filled all but Google support told me it was good. In doubt :

      Source
      rub

No videogame label despite the request to google support. But Google support don’t really answer me (and not fast)

Soooooo if you have any clue, don’t hesitate to tell me. We are really open to all new ideas because we have a lot of trouble. That’s really complicated for us.

Thank you very much for your time !

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Rank Math does not yet have a news map feature and one of the changes you need to make is to disable the Rank Math sitemaps module and install the Google news sitemap plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/xml-sitemap-feed/
You can then submit the new sitemap file to your search console to ensure that your news feed gets indexed faster.
One more step that you should do is to install the Rank Math instant indexing API plugin using the steps described on this page: https://rankmath.com/blog/google-indexing-api/

Featured snippets will be added to high quality unique articles that Google classifies as useful to user and thus doing all the right steps will not guarantee your article appearing at this position.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi,
    Many thanks for your support.

About the Google news sitemap plugin, was there no compatibility problem? I saw that wasn’t compatible with Rank Math. Unless it is only for sitemap?

So, second question, if I disable Rank Math sitemap and I put Google news sitemap plugin, I would only have the sitemap-news. Right ? Is not it bad to no longer have the other sitemap (post etc)?

Regarding Rank Math instant indexing API, is everything ok for a news site? I saw that you mentioned that it was for Job Posting and Live Streaming websites. Can I still install it?

    Best

    Hey Julien Blary,

Can I know if you are using Rank Math’s default setting for Article Structured data or any external plugin?

    Hi,
    Thanks for support

We use Rank Math’s default setting for Article Structured Data, yes (Article > NewsArticle)

    Why ?

    best,

    Hello,

About the Google news sitemap plugin, was there no compatibility problem? I saw that wasn’t compatible with Rank Math. Unless it is only for sitemap?

So, the second question, if I disable Rank Math sitemap and I put Google news sitemap plugin, I would only have the sitemap-news. Right? Is not it bad to no longer have the other sitemap (post etc)?

The Google News Sitemap has 2 options: https://i.rankmath.com/Qc5dH7
You can just enable the News Sitemap from the Google News Sitemap plugin. Or if you decide to use the index sitemap too from the Google News plugin then please disable the Sitemap module from Rank Math settings so there won’t be any compatibility problem.

Regarding Rank Math instant indexing API, is everything ok for a news site? I saw that you mentioned that it was for Job Posting and Live Streaming websites. Can I still install it?

Yes, Google recommends to use the Indexing API ONLY for Job Posting and Live Streaming websites but in our tests, we found that it works on any type of website. So you can give it a try and see it helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi
Many thanks for you support everyone,

I’ll check with another sitemap. I disabled the Rank Math sitemap and turned on the new one. It’s ok on the Google Search Console.
I also installed the Indexing API. Let’s see what it gives!

Please, Keep this topic open. We will see what happens in the next few days and I will come to you to tell you. For now, it’s been 24 hours and nothing seems to change. But let’s cross our fingers!

To avoid any possibility, do you have other ideas?
What about structured data? Do you think everything is ok on our website ?

    Thank you !!!

    Hi,

We are glad to be of help.

We will keep this topic open so you can update us if needed.
