Keywords already used

I sell automotive lighting and have products categorized by vehicle make model and year. 2015 – 2017 Ford F150 for example.

The category is full of headlights from multiple headlight companies but they are all for the 15-17 F150.

Your SEO advice gives me negative points for reusing a keyword on multiple products but I do not really know what else I can do because they are all for the same vehicle, just different brands.

Does it hurt to have my focus keyword used for multiple products?

Instead of 2015 Ford F150 LED Headlights, I opt for a broad F150 Headlights focus keyword but I have 30 F150 headlights on my website.

    What advise do you have?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support.

The issue with using the same focus keyword on multiple products is that all those products will compete against each other on the search results and it is very unlikely that they will rank higher in this approach. You can have a look at this guide for a quick reference: https://rankmath.com/kb/score-100-in-tests/#focus-keyword-uniqueness-primary-focus-keyword-only

As for your case, since you’re having multiple products of similar types, like headlights, to differentiate the products from each other, we would suggest either you add the brand name of the products in the focus keyword or any specific feature of the product along with the common name, headlight. You can also create the focus keyword with the combination of both, brand name and a feature (like LED, Halogen, Halogen Gen2, etc.)

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

When you look up keyword traffic, “Ford F150 LED Headlights” have substantially more search queries than “(Brand) Ford F150 LED Headlights”

Our goal is to convert customers who do not know which brand to buy and get them to our site vs getting those who already know the brand and probably already have a supplier.

By using a specific brand as the focus keyword, would we not be limiting ourselves too much to a niche area of customer searches? Or would the additional keywords we use help fill the void? Pro business user so my understanding is we can use multiple keywords.

Ie. (Brand) F150 Headlights, F150 Headlights, F150 LED Headlights

    Thank you for your help.

    Hello,

Thank you for the additional details on your intent to convert customers that are still doing general searches.

Since you are targeting more general searches related to “Ford F150 LED Headlights” you may need to research on what other keywords such users might be using and optimize for those eg “replacement Ford F150 Headlights”, “best Ford F150 Headlights”.

You can also look into creating pillar content for the general keyword: https://rankmath.com/kb/pillar-content-internal-linking/

Please note that the recommendations given by the Rank Math SEO score are guidelines, not strict rules to follow, so if they don’t fit your context you can ignore them.

Lastly keywords can only go so far and would need to work with other strategies such as external link building.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.
