Issues when site is multi language

    Hello there!

I have a multilanguage site and I’ve seen two issues you may be interested in. Plugin used is WPML.

First is same as first message here: https://support.rankmath.com/ticket/problems-with-my-sitemap/

The site’s main language is Spanish so the Homepage, even if its slud is inicio, appears correctly as mydomain.com (and not mydomain.com/inicio). However, in the other language, Catalan, the Homepage appears with its slug: mydomain.com/ca/inici/ (wrong) instead of mydomain.com/ca/ (correct).

The other issue is when working the same keyword in each language. For example, I may want to work “RankMath” in a post. But this keyword will be the same in Spanish and in Catalan because RankMath has no translation. However, when opening the Spanish post that works KW “Rankmath” the plugin says the keyword is already being worked in another URL. Yes, in the other language. This situation should not be considered as being worked in different content URLs.

I am not sure if Rank Math is causing this problem. Did you try deactivating the Rank Math plugin, does that fix this issue?

The post metadata in Rank Math is set to copy_once. So when you create a new translation, all the rank math post metadata will be copied to the new post. A site, even if it’s multilingual should have a unique Focus Keyword in all the posts. Why do you want to use the same Focus keyword in all the languages?

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi there!

    Thank you for your answers.

In case it was not understood, I’m talking about Rank Math’s sitemap. When adding more languages, Yoast sitemap considers each Homepage as a homepage, therefore deleting the slug. However, Rank Math maintains the slug of the translated homepages. I’ve added a sitemap example as sensitive data, in case you wish to look at it.

Why do you want to use the same Focus keyword in all the languages?

That’s the reason multi languages webpages exist: to be useful to users that speak different languages. I may want to write a review of Rank Math in English (to attract searches of English users) and translate it into Spanish (to attract searches of Spanish users).

    Waiting for your answer!

    Hi,

We checked and you don’t seem to be using WPML. You are using just one language.

    Did we miss something obvious?

    > I may want to write a review of Rank Math in English (to attract searches of English users) and translate it into Spanish (to attract searches of Spanish users).

But then, you would also translate the focus keyword.

For example, if the focus keyword is “hello” for the English version, it would be “Bonjour” in French.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Hi there,

    Yes, you did.

Considering the URL that I gave you in the sensitive data:

    1. If you see the code of the homepage you’ll see the hreflang tags.
    2. If you see the code of the homepage you’ll even see the string “wpml” appears everywhere
    3. If you go to he bottom of the page you’ll see a flag for the alternate language.
    4. And if you go to the page sitemap you’ll see a lot of pages within the /ca/ directory of the alternate language.

So yes, the site is multilanguage.

For example, if the focus keyword is “hello” for the English version, it would be “Bonjour” in French.

Yes, but as I commented previously, if I make a review working the KW “Google Search Console”, it’s going to be the same KW in all the languages.

Or I write a biography of Donald Trump, the focus keyword is going to be “Donald Trump” in all languages. In Spanish I’m not going to work on “Donaldo Triunfo”.

    Hello,

Upon checking further, the compatibility code needs to be added by the WPML team.

They have added Yoast’s compatibility code in classes/wpseo/wpseo-* files.

Sorry to disappoint but you would need to get in touch with them to get this sorted.

Hope that helps. If there’s anything else, please let us know. Thank you.
