Issue with Create both a Google Analytics 4 and a Universal Analytics Property

I followed the procedure to “Create both a Google Analytics 4 and a Universal Analytics Property” (details below under “Sensitive Data”).

My problem is that I’m only seeing traffic on the UA site (no traffic on the GA4).
    – I’m using Rank Math with “Install analytics code” switched on.
    – I have “Trapezoid / trapezoid.com v3 / All Web Site Data” selected in the drop down.

The tag being inserted is for the UA property. Should I be using the GA4 stream instead (that wasn’t an option in the drop-down).

    Please advise…

    hello,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Currently, the GA4 analytics version is not integrated with Rank Math. We are working toward using the GA APIs to do this integration in future updates once the API is fully ready for 3rd party plugins.

I have inspected your website and noticed only the presence of the UA-146729945 analytics code which is fine. You do not have to use the GA4 to track your site traffic.

If you are not seeing the traffic on GA, please also make sure you have do not have another plugin tracking your site traffic as well.

We are looking forward to helping you.
    Thank you.

This document from your website says that both properties should be linked. We use the GA4 api internally so I need both to work. Your documentation implies that Rank Math can use the linked UA.

The linked UA is reporting realtime traffic but I don’t see any history building up. Again I question if Rank Math is inserting the correct ID (property vs stream) for this particular linked setup.

According to this doc, we should be using the Measurement ID for a GA4 data stream.

    https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/ga4/basic-tag?technology=gtagjs

Does Rank Math provide an option for me to manually specify the ID?

confirmed. The configuration described in https://rankmath.com/kb/using-ga4/ does not work if you have the Rank Math “Install analytics code” switched on. Rank Math publishes the wrong gtag for this configuration.

    Workaround:

    1. Turn off “Install analytics code”
    2. Install GA Google Tags and set the gtag to the Measurement ID for the GA4 data stream.

At minimum, you should add this information to your document above (“install analytics code not compatible with this config”) and provide specifics for manual configuration.

    Hello,

We mention in that article that Rank Math is not compatible with Google Analytics v4 and provide the steps to convert to GA3 instead.

As is expected by switching to this configuration and since our plugin is not compatible with GA4 we output the GA3 code, which is compatible, on your website.

Having said that, we took note of the documentation improvements you suggested and we’ll pass those along to our product team for further assessment.

If you have any other questions don’t hesitate to get in touch.
