Instant Indexing fatal error upon saving post when API is expired

    Hey there,

We recently found an issue where we are unable to save a post when there’s an issue with the API key. In this case we think the API account has been deleted (likely due to a co-worker leaving and their Google account being removed).

Of course it makes sense that you can’t submit anything to the API without a valid API key, however it breaking the ability to save a post seems like an oversight. Could this get looked into? See the error message in the sensitive data.

As an agency we use this plugin on a lot of our clients’ websites, and us removing the account of a former colleague probably shouldn’t impact our clients’ websites.

    Thanks in advance,
    Jan

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

It seems like you’re using the Auto-Submit Post Types for Instant Indexing and that’s why when you’re trying to publish any new post or edit any existing post, Rank Math tries to submit it and causes this fatal error.

In this case, please head over to your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Instant Indexing > IndexNow API Settings, and from there deselect all the post types and see if that works for you.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

I understand that this was causing the problem, we already replaced the key. I only submitted this ticket to let you know that this can break the entire update/publish post function of the website, when it should instead just let you update/publish normally and simply notify you of the problem.

    Hello,

Please ensure that you are using the latest version of Rank Math plugin and the Instant Indexing plugin. If not yet, please do update them. You may refer to our changelog page here: https://rankmath.com/changelog/

Can you please try setting up the Instant Indexing plugin again by following this guide? https://rankmath.com/blog/google-indexing-api/

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

Again, it was already solved. But the error just shouldn’t be breaking the website. That’s the only reason I made the ticket, not because I needed help fixing it for myself but just to get it fixed for others in the future.

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us.

Thank you for sharing this with us, we appreciate you sharing the feedback with us, we appreciate it and will make a note of it for future iterations.

Thank you for choosing Rank Math
