Indexing issue. Incompatibility? Bug?

    Hi there,

I am using the Rank Math free service. Very happy! Will probably go to the full version once we have enough traffic.

Meanwhile, there is an issue with the indexing of term pages made with the CM Glossary Tooltip plugin. rather than contacting Rank Math themselves, the developers of this plugin advised us to contact you and ask you for a fix (bad service!!! Rank Math is no insignificant plugin… they should contact you themselves, I’d say…).

They emailed this: Our plugin doesn’t get included in the process of creating the XML file. As I can see, the links in the XML files are generated correctly. This file generated by Rank Math WordPress SEO Plugin so I recommend asking this plugin support for help. From our side, we are ready to implement any changes they will suggest.

This seems to be the case:
This plugin CM Glossary Tooltip offers the option to relabel the Glossary term pages it creates. In this case, we relabelled the ‘Glossary’ pages to ‘Explainers’. Rank Math does not create a sitemap with this relabelled term, creating aglossary sitemap instead – thus they are not indexed. We can submit these pages to Google individually.

So: the post type ‘Explainer’ gets the sitemap: https://nextinstitute.org/GLOSSARY-sitemap.xml (which we cannot change), rather than ‘https://nextinstitute.org/EXPLAINER-sitemap.xml’. Or it could be ‘https://nextinstitute.org/EXPLAINERS-sitemap.xml’, because on these term pages use the plural in the URL (example: https://nextinstitute.org/EXPLAINERS/superintelligence).

We tried submitting these sitemaps to Google, but not accepted. So, somehow, the relabelling does not translate into a sitemap. I’d say this is something they need to fix, but they are waiting for suggestions from you guys….

    Can you advice a fix.

    Best regards,
    Marie-Claire Aarts

We won’t manually index this for mow, for your perusal. You’ll find the Google and Bing response below:

    Hello,

The URL is present in the Sitemap:

    As per Google:

This page is not in the index, but not because of an error. See the details below to learn why it wasn’t indexed

So, there is no error but it is just that Google is choosing to not crawl/index the page right now.

One of the reasons could be that the content you are using is copied; https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:fla2DDdICCsJ:https://www.urbanpopup.nl/explainers/argument-to-moderation/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

    Screenshot for reference:

Google has a habit of taking ages to index copied content.

There is nothing with your Sitemap configuration.

    Hope that helps.

    Dear Uzair,

Thank you! There may be light at the end of the tunnel then… As it happens, urbanpopup.nl was used as a test site, but that was a while ago (since then we have re-upload its previous, unrelated, content.

Very frustrating, because clicking the Urban Popup URL still pops up in the Google search (and now gioves a 404 because no longer existent).

We have just submitted a new sitemap for the urbanpopup.nl URL. Hopefully it is finally picked up by Google that this content is no longer online. Is there anything we can do to speed up that process?

    Best!

    Hello,

Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up this process.

http://www.urbanpopup.nl is opening fine on my end and even the sitemap is loading fine.

As you have already submitted the sitemap, you have to wait for Google to crawl the sitemap.

I hope this helps. Looking forward to helping you.

    Hi there,

Regrettably you did not create a sitemap. As I explained Google console does not accept submissions – although the sitemap is mentioned on the Rank Math sitemap listing…

It still reads explainers-sitemap.xml: Type: unknown. Status: couldn’t fetch.

You can check for yourself: this URL does not exist: https://nextinstitute.org/explainers-sitemap.xml.

Regarding your comments: We always verify the https://nextinstitute.org version. We don’t use www. The website is cached every 10 hours.

I hope you have a fix! There is something wrong.

Again, the developer of the plugin that makes these posts (CM Tooltip Glossary – 10,000+), is interested to learn from you if there is anything they can do at there end.

    Best,

    Marie-Claire
