Hi I’m running a blog about gardening and recipes. I’m using 4 main categories at the moment and have them configured noindex, follow. After reading some news on the Internet, I got the information that this is not best practice. What is your recommentation? I have no online-shop. The categories are filled with posts.

    Greetings Kathrin

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.

If you think your site users will find it easier to browse through category archives, then you should index and optimize them where users will likely use them to search.

Here’s our guide on how you can optimize your category pages using Rank Math:

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

Ok, so I will undo the noindex option. But what about duplicate content. I read that category archives produce duplicate content. How can I stop this?

    Greetings Kathrin

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Duplicate content issues can happen on your archive pages if they only contain thumbnails of your posts.

You should index category pages when you have unique content on those pages like descriptions.

However, if some of them have unique content and some of them don’t, then give them index and noindex accordingly.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thanks
