Indexed, not submitted in sitemap

  • I recently made changes to my sitemap to remove tags/category showing up in the sitemap. A few pages have already been indexed by Google and are page 1. Google now recognises them as ‘Indexed, not submitted in sitemap’.

My question is, even though there are no crawl issues with the pages and they don’t show any errors in the console, will removing them from the sitemap cause Google to remove them or de-rank the pages?

    thank you for reading.

  • Yes, the same issue with me, how to fix it ?

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

It is normal for Google to show that message if you have removed the page/archive from the sitemap but haven’t noindexed yet.

Having noindex on those will prevent Google from including them in the index and they will completely remove the URL over a period of time.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
