In-page Ability to Exclude from XML Sitemap

It would be nice if you added an ‘XML Sitemap’ section within the Rank Math SEO Settings Box that appears when you open an entity (post, taxonomy).

Within that new ‘XML Sitemap’ section, you should have a toggle that gives you the ability to set that entity as ‘include’ or ‘exclude’ from XML Sitemap.

    See screenshot here:
    https://screencast-o-matic.com/i/cY6rDn7sgd

    Example:
If I’m at the Edit Category screen for a specific Category, I should be able to navigate to the ‘Advanced’ section of the Rank Math Settings Box, go to the ‘XML Sitemap’ section, and toggle whether or not I want to include this specific category in my XML Sitemap.

I understand that you can currently achieve similar functionality by navigating to:
Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > General > Exclude Posts/Terms section.

However, IMO — this functionality is slightly buried and not in an optimal location in regards to UI/UX.

Additionally, the existing setup assumes that the average user will be able to identify the correct term ID and/or post ID of the entity(s) that they are wanting to exclude.

Just a thought! If this already exists and I somehow overlooked it — please enlighten me. Thank you!

  • Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

You can exclude a page from being added to the sitemap on the page by heading to the Advanced tab and use either of the following options:

    1. Mark the page as noindex. The sitemap is only meant to include posts that are set to index and therefore noindexed post are simply excluded from the sitemap.

2.Add a canonical URL. Rank math understands post with user defined canonical as being duplicate content and they are therefore excluded from sitemap automatically.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

Michael, Thank you for your response.

Marking the page as noindex and excluding it from the XML Sitemap is not mutually exclusive.

A user may want to have a page indexed, but also excluded from the XML Sitemap.

    Hello,

In that case, you can set the post as index and then in the Rank Math’s sitemap settings, set the post to be excluded, as I show you in the following screencast:

    Looking forward to help you.
