Import from Redirections "Successful" But NO 301s appear in Rank Math

    Rank Math free

After playing around with Rank Math on our dev site, we ran the set-up of Rank Math on our live site today. Everything went smoothly, including an import of meta data from our old All-In-One SEO plug-in, as well as the import of 1,480 redirects from the WP Redirections plug-in.

The scrolling log file recording the import as it processed said that the import of all 1,480 redirects was successful, and Rank Math proceeded to deactivate the Redirections plug-in. However, when I visit the Redirects page within Rank Math, none of the imported 301s appear. We deleted and reinstalled Rank Math and ran through the whole set-up process a 2nd time, but got the exact same results in the end…import log says redirects migrated over successfully, yet there are none on the Rank Math Redirects screen.

We then ran an import from the Imports/Exports screen rather than trying via the set-up wizard, but same result again.

Finally, to rule out that the problem stemmed from the sheer # of 301s we’re trying to import, we cleared out the WP Redirections plug-in, then populated it with only FIVE 301s, and then performed the import of just those five into Rank Math. Unfortunately, none of the “successfully imported” redirects actually appear in Rank Math.

By the way, the import of all the meta data from the All-In-One SEO plug-in worked great…it’s just the 301s that won’t migrate over properly.

This is disappointing as we’re excited to get onboard with Rank Math, but dread the prospect of having the manually enter 1,480 redirects by hand into Rank Math (and, why can’t we import from a well-formatted CSV?!)

Any help or suggestions you can provide would be very appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for your very quick reply! So, we made an interesting discovery, and ultimately discovered a solution that may be useful to you/other users.

As a new vendor and being the first time we’ve worked with you guys, we thought to err on the side of caution and give you a WP acct on our DEV environment as that’s supposedly a mirror of LIVE. But before doing so, I wanted to get some screenshots for you guys, plus indeed verify that the bug was repeatable on DEV (would be embarrassing for you to try on DEV and it all work great).

Funny thing is that my attempt at the import from Redirections into Rank Math worked great. I flushed both plug-ins, tried again, and it all worked flawlessly once again on DEV. That’s when we looked at the versions and discovered that our DEV has Rank Math 1.0.27.4 whereas the problems we’re having on RM on our LIVE site is with 1.0.30 (apparently not so mirror after all :/ ).

On LIVE we deleted 1.0.30 and replaced it with the older version of Rank Math, then tried the import from WP Redirections and it all worked swimmingly, problem solved!

So, there’s something buggy in 1.0.30 with it completing imports of 301s from WP Redirections into RM…the import UI indicates a successful import, but nothing actually loads in RM’s Redirections screen. One solution is to fall back to Rank Math 1.0.27.4

Thanks again for your assistance with this. 🙂

    Hello,

    Thanks for the detailed response.

This is a bit strange, I have just installed the Redirection plugin by John Godley and tested this with automatic import option but this works smoothly on the latest version.
Would you mind sharing a copy of the CSV export that you used so that we can test this with the same settings?

We are looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Sure, what’s the best way to send you the CSV? I don’t see a file upload option for the post.

    Hi,
I just installed RankMath and the automatic wizard apparently imported all redirects from the Redirection plugin, but nothing showed up.
Then I tried to manually add those redirects. After pressing the Add button, nothing was added. I also verified that I got a 404 on the URL that was supposed to be redirected.

    Hi guys,

We have just released an update to address this issue.
    Please update to version 1.0.30.2.

Let us know how it works for you. Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi Michael,

Can you confirm that the issue is now resolved? The sensitive data section does not have any data.

We are looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

By rolling back to version 1.0.27.4, we were able to successfully perform the import of 301s from the WP Redirections plug-in into Rank Math. So yes, this matter is now resolved.

We anticipate that later we will attempt to install 1.0.30.2 and ensure that all the redirects are retained, but for now we’re going to hang tight with the current version.

    Hi Michael,

Perfect! I am glad that this version works for you.

Feel free to contact us for any other questions, comments or suggestions.

    Thank you.
