Import Export for new WordPress installation

    We are building a new site. The previous site was running rank math and the client has done custom SEO for many pages. The old site is a mess and we do not want to simply change the theme. So, we plan on setting up a new WordPress installation and importing all of their pages and posts into our NEW installation. Will this approach require us to manually re-enter all the old rank math data, or is there some way we can use the import/export to migrate this data over to the new installation? Thanks!

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

    You can effortlessly make use of the Rank Math import/export option to migrate the Rank Math data from the old site to the new one.

    Please head over to Rank Math > Import & Export > Export and use this tool to export all the settings which you can then import to the new site without any data loss.

    I have a related export-import question – if i’m migrating from staging.mysite.com to mysite.com and want to manually export from staging and import into the main domain, will the imported data update the relevant urls automatically – eg will a redirection destination set to staging.mysite.com/xyz become mysite.com/xyz, or do they then all need to be changed manually?

    Same question for everywhere else that the url is referenced!

    Hi Ben,

    Thanks for getting in touch with us.

    Because of how redirections are setup – you will need to manually update all redirects with the correct domain.

    You will also need to change the canonical tags on posts where you manually entered a canonical URL.

    With that said, you can use any free find and replace plugin to change all instances of your staging domain with the live domain. You will not need to anything else after that.
