HowTo Missing Fields (Tool & Supply)

  • Resolved DMNI DZ

    Dear RankMath Team,
After adding HowTo block on the Gutenberg editor in one of my posts, and after submitted to google for indexing, google did not accept to index and send me email saying issues detected on web site as below

    To the owner of XXXXXXXXXX:
Search Console has identified that your site is affected by 3 How-to issues:
    Top Warnings
Warnings are suggestions for improvement. Some warnings can affect your appearance on Search; some might be reclassified as errors in the future. The following warnings were found on your site:
    Missing field “tool”
Either “image” or “video” should be specified
    Missing field “supply”
We recommend that you fix these issues when possible to enable the best experience and coverage in Google Search.

After checking in my google webmaster console it was not indexed…
In the same time there’s no way to specify the “tool” or “supply”…
    Please advice…

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Can you please share the affected URL so that we can check the warnings on our end?

Please note that these are just warnings. Google recommends that you have these in your Schema but they are not essential. So, they will not have any effect on the ability of your content to appear with Rich Snippets in Google’s Search Engine Result Pages.

We are looking forward to helping you.

Thanks Jeremy for your quick reply…

I was thinking and believing same as you and specially after reading RM reply for other user that faced the same issues, also it it showing (optional field) when checking my URL on google tools.

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Regards, Thank you.

    Thank you for following up.

Since it is optional, these fields won’t have any effect on your Rich Snippets in Google’s Search Engine Result Pages. If you’re referring to Either "image" or "video" should be specified (optional), I’ve checked the page in question, and it seems that you haven’t added images on your HowTo blocks, resulting in a warning, which is just optional.

In this case, if you don’t feel like adding images on your HowTo block, you can ignore this as it is only a warning, not an error at all.

You can follow the steps in this link if you wanted to add images to your HowTo block:

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

    Dear Reinelle,
I know that “image” or “video” are (optional), it also said that Missing field “tool” and “supply” are (optional)…

But why google did not accept to show it in search result (check attached image)…

I’m afraid that there is no set time when, or if, your page will start appearing as rich results, even if you have the correct markup. It is up to Google to include your website in the search results, and the factors they consider to do so are not made available publicly.

In this case, there is nothing to worry about and it is just a waiting game until Google decides to include Schema for your website. Please note that although Rank Math adds proper schema to your website, it is ultimately Google’s decision if they want to include them with your website or not. It depends on a lot of factors, authority and backlinks being just the 2 of them.

    Here’s what Google says:

“Google does not guarantee that your structured data will show up in search results, even if your page is marked up correctly according to the Structured Data Testing Tool.”

You can read more about the guidelines on this page:

P.S: There are publications reporting that Google is not showing FAQ and HowTo Schema for a substantial number of websites so it may have nothing to do with whether the code is added correctly or not.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

    Clear enough… thanks…

I am happy it helped you. Do you have any other questions or do you want me to mark it as solved?

    Thank you.

    Dear Jeremy,
