How to write better intros for SEO

Hello, I am loving rankmath so far! New user, new-ish blogger. I have a conversational writing style, and my blog posts nearly always begin with an intro that is not loaded with keywords. It feels very forced and awkward if I do it right up front. For example, one of my current drafts is about sexual abuse in the military. Sexual abuse is a sensitive subject to begin with, so I prefer a soft opening. This article in particular is lengthy and academic-sounding. Rather than jumping right into the text, my first paragraph is a chatty bit about how I’m re-purposing one of my grad school papers for my readers. It’s not bad writing, but it totally goes to zero in terms of SEO checklist.

Can you point me to resources/links/ANYTHING that helps me with this problem? I really don’t want my articles to read like newspaper articles, but to be more conversational. But that tanks my SEO. Can you suggest ways that I can have both?

Thank you! My website is https://www.buriedtreasure.me
