    Hi

Everytime I duplicate a post and rankmath will automatically indexing the url(xxx.com/post-copy) instantly. How can I stop this? Because I will edit the duplicated post and the URL will also be changed to a new url.

    Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and we regret the inconvenience caused.

Assuming you’re using the Instant Indexing plugin of Rank Math, any post is submitted for indexing only if it is published. If while duplicating the post, an instant indexing request is sent, then it is likely that the duplicate post is getting published (at least for a second or two).

However, after updating the duplicate post, you can use the Instant Indexing: Update link to send an updated indexing request. https://i.rankmath.com/af6rFb

With that being said, could you please let us know which plugin are you using to duplicate the posts?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

    Thank you.

    Hi Prabhat,

I don’t think it will work by click”indexing updated”. Because once I duplicated the post, it will instantly index the URL, and after I edit this post and publish it, the rankmath will automatically indexing the updated URL. So there will be two URL indexed, for your reference, you can see the below screenshot:
    https://ibb.co/5nBJZ8C

The only way I can do it to remove the copy url everytime after I duplciated a post.

The plugin I am using is Post Duplicator.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Could you please confirm if this is the plugin you’re using?
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/post-duplicator/

If so, you can ensure that the duplicate post is not automatically published by setting this option to draft on your WordPress Dashboard > Tools > Post Duplicator:
    Duplicate post

    However, you mentioned:

Because once I duplicated the post, it will instantly index the URL, and after I edit this post and publish it, the rankmath will automatically indexing the updated URL.

If the post is automatically indexed upon duplicating (without editing and publishing), please ensure that the duplicate post is not set to index. You can also change the default robots meta to set to noindex all your new post/duplicate post in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Post
    Noindex

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.

    Hi
Yes, the duplicate plugin is the one I am using and I already did the same settings.

So, if i choose no index for posts, that will no index all posts instead of only duplicated posts. For example, I duplicated the post:xxx.com/post-title, the Rankmath will instantly index the duplicated url:xxx.com/post-title-copy. Then I edit this duplicated post and update the url to:xxx.com/post-title-2 and published it. The Rankmath will instantly index this new URL.

How can I let rank math only index the new URL automatically and not index the duplicated post url:xxx.com/post-title-copy ?

    Hello,

Thank you for getting back to us.

This is something that has to do with the Post Duplicator plugin since it is not setting the correct status once a post is duplicated. With the settings provided by my colleague you should have your duplicate post set to draft.

Draft posts are not indexed by search engines as long as they are not published, so there is no need to set these to noindex. You can read more about this here:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/are-drafts-in-wordpress-being-indexed/

A draft post is private and cannot be shown unless you are logged into your site. So, it would really help you if you check out or contact the plugin devs team, why it does not present the posts in draft mode.

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Hi Brian,

You do have a very smart brain. You are right. After switching to the other plugin and it is ok now. Thanks for your help.
