Thanks for the follow up.
There is no option to modify the tag URL in WP, removing or directly modifying URLs that have already been indexed is also frowned upon in SEO since this will ultimately cause a bad user experience and cause 404 errors.
This is where redirections come in since the old posts will redirect to the new URL that does not have the tag base.

It would still work.
The URLs would still open and everything will work exactly like it did before you switched to Rank Math.
It is just that the tag archives will have the /tag/ in them like before.
The post URLs will not have anything in them like before.

I am sorry but that method only works when you target URLs exist.
For example, your previous URL structure was domain.com/topics/post-name
But, you updated the URL structure to this:
domain.com/post-name
Then, to redirect all posts with this structure
domain.com/topics/post-name
To this:
domain.com/post-name
You would need the method we offer. It will not work in your case since the URLs without the tag in them would show a 404. I am sorry but like I mentioned – there is no option in Rank Math to strip the tag base. You may use a 3rd party plugin for that.
