    Hello,

I am working on the seo of my new website Duurzaamamsterdam.net in Rankmath.

The snippet is taken automatically from a page. How can I change this?

    So it says:
Duurzaam Amsterdam | Buurt in beeld
Biologisch, Eerlijk loon, Lokaal, Groene Energie, Geen afval

    The first line is perfect.
The second line needs to be changed. I can’t remove the words from the box.

So how can I change this line?

Could you please let me know about this? Thanks.

    Kind regards,

    Lydia Heida

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

The default words in the description box cannot be edited, because it is auto-generated from the first paragraph of your pages/posts. You can click the box and start typing to update your meta description, and you will notice the auto-generated words will be deleted as well.

    Please refer to this screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/HdmuSC

You can also visit this link for more information:

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Hello,

Thanks for your reply and sending the link to rankmath’s knowledge base.

In the description box, on the right there is an arrow, and if you click on this – all sorts of variables show up.

    See: https://rankmath.com/kb/variables-in-seo-title-description/

    1. It is possible to change the information in the description box, by choosing these variables?

    2. However, that will still not solve the issue that I cannot type in the description of the page that I want.

To solve this, I have to redesign my website pages so that Rankmath can take the correct lines from the first lines of the page. Is this correct?

This is important, as Google Search Results of my website show exactly what Rankmath is showing in its snippet.

Please let me know about the above if I am understanding this correctly and if there is no other solution.

    Thanks,

    Lydia

    Hello,

    Thank you for following up.

    1. Yes, you can use variables to edit the meta description of your pages/posts dynamically.

    2. It seems to be working fine on our end when you click the description box and start typing. Could you also try another browser to see if this is a browser issue?

If the issue persists, assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Only the site admin would know, and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Hi Reinelle,

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately, I don’t understand your second reply.

    1. First you write:

You can click the box and start typing to update your meta description, and you will notice the auto-generated words will be deleted as well.

    Please refer to this screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/HdmuSC

    2. But now you write it is possible to rewrite the description after all.

Your quote: “It seems to be working fine on our end when you click the description box and start typing.”

That is contradicting eachother. Or do I miss something?

Could you please clarify this? Many thanks.

    Kind regards,

    Lydia

    Hello,

    We apologize for the confusion.

The meta description can be edited to your liking. My colleague explained that by default, the meta description is autogenerated from your content’s first paragraph.

Here are the ways of editing meta description:
    1. Fully dynamic. You can make use of our pre-made shortcodes to create a dynamic meta description based on your website settings or your content:
    shortcodes

    2. Fully static. You can simply add your own description as text.
    shortcodes

    3. Static and dynamic. Or, you can mix both static text and dynamic shortcodes to create your meta description.

I hope that answers your question. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,

    Thanks for your information.

I have tried again to change the description, and now it is working.

I am happy with this, as Rankmath has been a great tool to work with so far, and this has been the first stumbling block.

Now I can further improve my SEO.

    Kind regards,

    Lydia
