How can restructing a massive woocommerce site affect SEO?

I just started working on a new site, and thinking about making these massive changes. Let me know which one I should do and which one I shouldn’t. Site is Idiya

    1. Migrate Yoast to RankMath, but don’t want to lose any ranking.

    2. The product links are not clear. It includes “products“, “product-category/[category]/[subcategory]“, “product-tag“. I want to change them into “[domain]/[page-name-with-keyword]”. Is this a good idea to change all of the URLs? What’s the safest way to do this?

    3. The categories assigned to the products are a total mess. Some have wrong categories, some have not the exact subcategory. In short, the structure is neither industry standard nor user-friendly to navigate. So I’m thinking about recategorizing the entire product list. Should I really do that? I think I’ll anyway do that, maybe slowly. But can I use multiple categories and subcategories for a single product?

That’s a lot of questions! Sorry for that! Looking for your help! Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

As for the first case you can follow through with our process of changing from Yoast to Rank Math here: https://rankmath.com/kb/yoast-seo-migration/

Please note that after the switching you will need to ensure that the posts with keywords inserted need to be updated for the SEO Score to reflect again with Rank Math analysis. But we recommend updating them having changed some content within the pages.

When it comes to your product links, Rank Math does offer a way to remove these base slugs and permalinks from your URLs.

For instance, if you are using WooCommerce you can remove the base for shop in the product URL, remove category base, and parent slugs. Please note that this will not affect your ranking in any way as they will be redirected automatically.

It is always wise to have a good structure for all your products so that their search engines and users are able to get to them easily. This will also help with your breadcrumbs.

For a single product you can have multiple categories and subcategories, with Rank Math we will always give you an option to set your primary category in all your products/posts.

See more on this here: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-choose-a-primary-category/

Hope this is more helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.

    Thanks for the amazing reply!

Which one do you prefer in redirection, using Redirection by RM or from the server dashboard? This site is on Kinsta.

Also, if I change the permalink settings, will it change all my existing URLs or just the new ones I upload next?

    Hello,

    Thank you for the update.

Updating the permalinks will also affect your existing URLs.

I’ve also checked your site, and it seems that you’re using WooCommerce for your products.

In case you wanted to remove those (from your question #2 above), you can enable the Remove base option in Rank Math > General Settings > WooCommerce
    Woocommerce remove base

Please note that some options are only available when you enable the Advanced Mode in Rank Math. If it’s not showing, you must have chosen to use the Easy Mode. Please follow the steps in this link to switch to Advanced Mode:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/advanced-mode/

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, and looking forward to your update.
