Google Search Image Incorrect for Home Page

When I search struttn 360 on google my home page comes back but the incorrect image is shown there. I have the correct image as the featured image everywhere I can find it, but I can’t figure out why it is picking the image it is picking. This used to work properly so I don’t know why it changed. It is showing a green call, but it should be showing the picture of a black square with a remote, it is likely if you search it you will see how it should look directly above it.

Also any suggestions on how to get the actual product page to rank better?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any control over how images in the SERP results are displayed and Google displays them as per their will and it mostly depends on the keyword search term and the website authority.

You can try to add relevant ALT text to the featured image.

You can design an SEO strategy to improve your rankings. Here are some of the factors Google considers when ranking you: https://backlinko.com/google-ranking-factors

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I will have to mess around because I just checked all of the images that are showing and the one I want definitely has the most relevant text and is also the first image to show on the home page.

    Two Quesitons:
    1. If I change the “Page Type” under Posts, if it would at least remove the image all together? I recently switched to “Product” and I am wondering if that is what triggered the Image to start being displayed. I can change it to something else. Any suggestions on a good “All Purpose” type?

    2. Do you have any control over the favicon that is displayed on mobile? I have tried everything I can think of to change that because we rebranded and I can’t get it to update for the life of me. I uploaded a new favicon.ico, I updated the site icon, I put it in the root file, I have it in my media library, I have a reference to it in my header file, and it refuses to update.

    Hello,

    1. As explained by my colleague, it would depend entirely on Google if they wish to display your image on the SERP and which one to display. Google sometimes chooses the image within the page even you already provided a featured image and a proper schema no matter what “page type” it is.

    2. Please attempt to clear your website cache and allow Google to recrawl your page.

If the incorrect favicon is still showing, please ensure that you have correctly added the favicon to your website.

The icon should be added as a favicon.ico file and then you must have something like this in the <head> section of your header.php.
    <link rel=“shortcut icon” href=“https://example.com/favicon.ico” />

If your theme provides an option to add a favicon, please contact them to see if the favicon is correctly being added per Google’s standards.

Please also note that after you have done updating your favicon it takes some time for Google to re-crawl your website.

Here is the information from Google:
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/appearance/favicon-in-search?hl=en&visit_id=637449270669127660-2893353793&rd=1#:~:text=Google%20will%20look%20for%20and,to%20appear%20in%20search%20results

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.

Thanks I will play around with the different schema types in your tool for the home page. I switched it from product to article, so hopefully that will help.
