Google Search Console Webmaster Tool not verified

  • Hi,

I have added the Google Search Console verification HTML code or ID via WordPress Editor > Rank Math > General Settings > Webmaster Tools > Google Search Console, and yet when I observe the Google Webmaster Central platform itself (please see attached image in sensitive data), I get the error message:

“Verification failed for ________________ using the Meta tag method (less than a minute ago). We couldn’t find the verification meta tag.”

    Can you please advise?

  • Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

Did you clear your website’s cache before attempting to verify?

Sometimes, the tags are added for you but Google sees an old cached version.

So, it is a good idea to clear then cache and then try again.

If not, check your website’s source code and make sure the HTML tag is present.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thanks Todd,

Turns out because I was using a “maintenance mode” plugin, Google was presumably unable to read the relevant HTML meta data to verify my ownership. Briefly disabling the plugin and verifying did the trick.
