Google Search Console reports me errors in sitemaps.xml

Hi, in the sitemaps.xml (generated by the Rank Math plugin) the url to the different home pages of each language indicated as follows:

url for homepage IT = https: //example.est/
url for homepage EN = https: //example.est/en/home/
url for homepage ES = https: //example.est/es/home/

Instead on the pages of the site, the language selectors (for translations I use the WPML plugin) show these links:

link for homepage IT = https: //example.est/
link for homepage EN = https: //example.est/en/
link for homepage ES = https: //example.est/es/

The consequence of this is that Google search console reports me errors for “Duplicate and sent URL not selected as canonical”.

I ask, how can I make the sitemaps urls match the menu links?

NB: in sitemaps.xml at the moment there are NO url identical to the links So I can’t just tell Rank Math to exclude the url

    https: //example.est/en/home/

because then I would not have any url pointing to the homepage in English.

Maybe I should replace it with the following url, but I don’t know how to do with rank math:

    https: //example.est/en/

Thanks to those who can help me

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

I’ve checked the website connected to your account, and I’m unable to find the URL with /home/. Could you please remove all the sitemaps you have submitted in Google Search Console, then resubmit your main sitemap only /sitemap_index.xml? Then give Google some time to recrawl your website.

If the issue still persists, could you please also share the affected URL in the designated Sensitive Data section?

It is completely secure, and only our support staff has access to that section.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for following up, and sorry for the delay.

I’ve checked the sitemaps, and it seems that it is already redirecting to the /en/ and /es/. Since they are not existing and only redirecting, they should not be included in your sitemap list.

Can you please follow these steps?
    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/xXXhDt

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. Please follow the steps in the link below:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Thanks Reinelle for the help.

I excluded redirected urls from the sitemap, can you please check the changes made?

In particular, I did not understand the following issues:

    a) why does rankmath insert in the sitemap urls that don’t exist (redirect 301) and not the final urls (code 200)?

    b) now that I have deleted the url with redirect, how can I insert the correct final urls (status code 200) in the sitemap?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Hello,

Thank you for following up, and sorry for the delay.

I’ve checked your sitemap, and it seems that you have also exluded the /en/ and /es/ URLs. Could you please confirm how did you exclude the redirecting URLs?

    a) The redirected links should not be showing in your sitemap, as they are non-existing. If they are still showing, you would need to flush your sitemap cache by following the steps above.

    b) It seems that you have excluded the exact URL and not the redirects. If not, you can check this link for the common reasons why a page/post is not showing in your sitemap:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/url-not-in-sitemap/

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Hello,

Thank you for that additional information, and sorry for the delay.

In this case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

    Hello,

Unfortunately, it is not upto us to provide a fix for this problem. As mentioned previously, we are waiting for a reply from WPML.

Can you please check once with the WPML team as well regarding this problem?

Having a URL in the sitemap twice will not cause any issues with the indexing or SEO, just FYI.

Please do let us know what WPML says.
