Google duplicating page title in SERP

    Hi,

I was hoping you could help with a strange issue that started happening recently.

On quite a number of the pages on my site, Google has started indexing the pages with a duplicate site title (“FX-PM”) + separator + “Graphic Design” (see screenshot). These pages were all indexed correctly up until about a week a go in the format page title + separator + site title.

I have triple checked every setting in RankMath and WordPress and can not find where this issue is coming from. The source code of the pages in question also looks correct.

I don’t seem to have this issue with Bing.

I would be grateful if you could please take a look and advise on a possible solution.

    Many thanks,

    Philippe

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

I’ve tried checking the affected URLs, and it seems that Rank math is correctly adding your meta to your page as well in the source code. You can also use this tool:
    https://www.heymeta.com/

In this case, you must check if Google has seen the changes already or not. Please check this link for more information:

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.

    Hi Reinelle,

Thanks for getting back to me.

As you rightly confirmed, everything is set-up correctly and the source code looks fine.

I’ve checked the Google cache and some of the pages haven’t been crawled since February, yet suddenly the page titles in the SERP have changed for no obvious reason as I didn’t make any changes at all.

    Any other ideas, please?

    Thanks,

    Philippe

    Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up, and sorry for the delay.

I’ve further checked the results, and it seems that the word FX-PM • Graphic Design is the one that is being added. Could you please confirm if this is your Brand name?

If so, that’s completely normal for Google to include your brand name in the titles automatically – even if you deliberately leave them out from your titles.

With that said, it largely depends on keyword intent too. For some keyword searches, your custom title might appear while for others – Google might append your brand name to the title and there is nothing you can do to force them to do otherwise.

If that’s not your brand name, please also try resubmitting your sitemap to your Google Search Console account and give Google some time to recrawl your site to see the correct meta tags for the title of your pages.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.

    Hi Reinelle,

    Thanks for the response.

“FX-PM” is the name of the company and also the site title. Whilst one of the services we offer is graphic design, I just don’t understand why Google is specifically adding “• Graphic Design” to the page titles (specially the bullet).

In terms of the sitemaps, they all look correct and Google Search Console is reading them regularly.

I’ll certainly keep an eye on the SERP over the next few weeks to see if the pages get re-crawled. Hopefully the index will then improve.

    It just all looks messy.

    Thanks for your help.

    All the best,

    Philippe
