    Rank Math free

    Hi!

    I’ve found https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-noindex-paginated-pages/ which unfortunately doesn’t seem to work for my client’s product categories, it always says ‘index,follow’.

    It currently says
    <meta name="robots" content="follow, index, max-snippet:-1, max-video-preview:-1, max-image-preview:large"/>

    I would expect it to say the following after configuring Rank Math -> Titles & Meta -> Misc Pages -> Noindex Paginated Single Pages
    <meta name="robots" content="follow, noindex, max-snippet:-1, max-video-preview:-1, max-image-preview:large"/>

    Is there another (php) way to override the default settings?

    Many thanks,
    Daniel

  • Hello,

    Thanks for contacting us, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    It seems that you’re currently using the Rank Math PRO plugin, but the account you have used to open this ticket is the Rank Math free version.

    Can you please search and forward a receipt from FastSpring.com so we can locate your account and verify it?

    As for your issue, the link you have shared is a category page. In this case, please enable this option to set to noindex your paginated pages:

    Subpages

    Let us know how this goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hi Sakib,

    I have updated the sensitive data as requested.

    Many thanks for your quick reply. That seems to work, but there is a side effect I’m not sure is intended. We’re running it with our marketeer, but perhaps you have an idea as well:

    With the “Noindex subpages” checked, the links to prev/next pages in the paginated result are removed. We would like search engines to follow these links to be able to index the products on those pages.

    BEFORE change:
    <meta name=”robots” content=”follow, index, max-snippet:-1, max-video-preview:-1, max-image-preview:large”/>
    <link rel=”canonical” href=”https://domain.tld/category/page/3/&#8221; />
    <link rel=”prev” href=”https://domain.tld/category/page/2/&#8221; />
    <link rel=”next” href=”https://domain.tld/category/page/4/&#8221; />
    AFTER CHANGE:
    <meta name=”robots” content=”follow, noindex”/>

    Is there any way to keep the meta robots tag AND the link tags?

    Many thanks,
    Daniel

    Hello,

    The products are submitted to Google using the sitemap and they will be able to discover them from it so there is no point in adding the next and prev links to the pages when you don’t want to index them as it will have no benefit and will only exhaust the crawl budget of the site and it can slow down the indexing of the pages you want to get indexed.

    Hope that helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Thanks.

    Hi Jaideep,

    Good point,
    Many thanks for your reply!

    Have a great weekend,
    Daniel
