Feature : index now

#784782
  • Hello,

I have been heavily changing some content in my e-commerce website, and the ‘index now’ feature is due to send refreshed data to Google Search Console. However, sone pages i modified few days agao are still not indexed by Google and i was wondering how the ‘index now’ feature is working ?

Does any limit of modification per day is applying before going to Google Search Console ? What about the remaining elements over the limit, is there any “queueing system” so all the modified pages are one days push to Google Search Console thru ‘index now’ feature ?

Last but not least, there is an API key which is created, but where should i copy-paste it in Google Search Console so it is linked to my website Rank Math ?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

Thank you for reaching out about the IndexNow feature in Rank Math and your concerns about the indexing process in Google Search Console.

The IndexNow feature in Rank Math allows you to instantly inform search engines like Google about the changes on your website. There is currently no known limit to the number of modifications you can submit per day using IndexNow. However, it is always recommended not to exploit this benefit.

If some of your modified pages are not yet indexed by Google, please note that while IndexNow informs search engines about changes, the actual crawling and indexing of these pages are at the discretion of the search engine. There is no specific queueing system in place to push modified pages to Google Search Console through the IndexNow feature.

Regarding the API key, it is not directly linked to Google Search Console. The API key generated by Rank Math for IndexNow needs to be added to a text file named [your_api_key].txt and uploaded to the root directory of your website. This step ensures that when you submit a URL using IndexNow, the request is accepted and waiting for validation before being submitted.

For more detailed instructions on how to use the IndexNow feature and manage the API key, you can refer to our guide here: How to Use IndexNow With Rank Math.

If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to ask. We’re here to help!

    Best regards.

    Hello,

Apologies for the confusion, but the IndexNow API is for Bing and Yandex search engines:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-use-indexnow/

If you’re referring to submitting your URLs to Google, then you may need to configure the Instant Indexing API by following this guide religiously:
    https://rankmath.com/blog/google-indexing-api/

Also, you can uncheck the post type from the Instant Indexing settings if you do not want the posts from this post type to be automatically sent to the API.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have been installing the Google Indexing API as per this procedure (https://rankmath.com/blog/google-indexing-api/). The setup has been complete and i pushed 44 URLs into Google with success.
But unfortunately the “Index Now History” is empty. Did i missed something ? or is there anything wrong in the extension ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

Did you have a chance to see what’s wrong in my website ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

The IndexNow history is for submissions to the IndexNow API but since you are submitting to the Google Indexing API instead, there is no history in the plugin for that.

In that section, only the URLs submitted to the IndexNow API for Bing and Yandex will show.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

I have to admit i am confused…. why should i install Google Indexing API in addition to Rank Math instant index feature ? And why there isn’t any way to check which URL had been pushed to Google in Google Indexing API ?

    Thanks for your help

Following to my previous message : if i am using Google Indexing API for both Google and IndexNow update, shall i desactivate the instant indexing feature in RankMath to avoid double action ?

    Hello,

Sorry about the confusion, we will try to explain and differentiate between the two.

The Rank Math’s Instant Indexing feature allows you to submit your URLs to IndexNow-enabled search engines such as Bing and Yandex and helps you to index your website and its content, even without configuring your site with any of these webmaster tools. You can check more information about Rank Math’s Instant Indexing feature here: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-use-indexnow/

On the other hand, the Google Indexing API works only for Google and helps to get your website’s pages and content crawled immediately by Google. To set this up, you need to use a separate plugin called the Instant Indexing for Google plugin. You can check more information about the Google Indexing API here: https://rankmath.com/blog/google-indexing-api/

Both can be used on your site as one helps you to index faster on Bing and Yandex while the other helps with indexing on Google.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.

Okay thanks for your return. Can you please notify the développées team to include in Rank Math the full history of search engines notification (Google + Bing and Yandex), thanks

    Hello,

Thank you for your suggestion. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with, or if you would like to close this ticket.
