Facebook og:description tag

I’ve noticed that recently, my post og:description fields are not being picked up when sharing new posts on Facebook – despite the fact that I enter these descriptions for every new post. When I check the FB debugger, that particular field is picking up the first few lines of the post itself – not my description. Why would this be happening? I’ve tried re-scraping a few times but to no avail.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Can you please share the affected URL with us so we can further check it on our end? You may share the URL in the sensitive data section.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I’ve checked your site, and it seems that you have duplicate Opengraph meta tags being added by one of your plugins or active theme.

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), to determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Here is a video you can follow as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcIWRhcUP2c

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

Let us know how this goes.

    Thank you.

    Hi there
Tried this and didn’t resolve the issue unfortunately. Remained the same even with default 2020 theme and Rank Math only, enabled in troubleshooting mode.
    cheers
    Carole

Hey guys I think I’ve found the culprit! I deactivated RankMath and kept checking the page source for my post, while deactivating each of the other plugins in turn. The duplicate line of open graph code disappeared after I deactivated Pinterest for WooCommerce. Not sure why this didn’t show up when I tried the Health Check – but not to worry, I now know where the problem is. Thanks so much for all your help, it sent me on the right track!

    Hello,

We are glad that you have already managed to find the culprit of this issue.

If you have any other concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime to assist you further.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.
