Excerpt and Custom Field

    Hi.

I´ve read some posts already – but still not 100% sure if I get this right.

We want to use this – %excerpt% %sep% %customfield(seo-beschreibung)% – in the description field. Am I right that RM ignores the WP post excerpt input completly and %excerpt% just take it´s on part of the ‘normal’ post content section?

And if – is there any way to change this?

    Thx / Sascha

  • Hello again.

    Here comes a little update:

I´ve tested some things and this seems is a strange behaviour to me.

If I set %excerpt% under Title & Meta / Single Extension Description for a post type – RM uses the given excerpt in the post as expected.

If I set this in the Edit Snippet / Description of the post – RM use a part from the content.

You wrote this in Your docs:
Important Note: If you’ve installed Rank Math on a website that has plenty of posts already, then you don’t have to go back and manually fix the meta descriptions of your posts. Rank Math is intelligent enough to generate a meta description based on your primary focus keyword. If a focus keyword is not found, then, Rank Math will use the excerpt text as the meta description. If even that’s not set, then Rank Math will pick the first paragraph of your text as the SEO description.

But my excerpt is set – why is it ignored?

    Thx / Sascha

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

I believe that what you need is the %excerpt_only% variable that will display only the post excerpts and not the auto-generated one.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
