Errors Rank Match modules, robots.txt and sitemap.xml

    Rank Math free

Hello good day. I have several problems with the plugin and I would like to know how to solve it. I have installed the plugin, instead of Yoast.
    – URL /sitemap.xml does not redirect to sitemap_index.xml
    – It seems that my robots.txt has a redirect loop that prevents it from being displayed
    – It doesn’t let me activate any module, except the ones I’ve configured with the setup wizard (Monitor 404, Local Seo, redirections…etc)

    The domain is https://www.almugmcoach.com/

    Thanks a lot

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Rank Math creates a virtual Sitemap dynamically /sitemap_index.xml. We rely on redirects enabled by your server software to accomplish that. If the /sitemap.xml redirection doesn’t work, you may need to add the codes in this link manually:

    https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-sitemap-issues/#apache-error

I have checked your robots.txt file and it indeed is in a redirect loop. It keeps redirecting from https://www.almugmcoach.com/robots.txt/ to https://www.almugmcoach.com/robots.txt and vice versa.

Could you please check with your web host if there are any redirect rules in place that might be the cause of this issue?

Regarding the issue with modules not activating, could you please open the browser console while trying to activate modules and check if you’re getting any errors in the console?

Alternatively, you can edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have checked your site https://www.almugmcoach.com/ and it seems that the robots.txt issue has been resolved now.

    It is now working fine.

However, the /sitemap.xml is still not redirecting to sitemap_index.xml. Have you added the code from https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-sitemap-issues/#apache-error to your .htaccess file?

I see that you have shared a screenshot in the sensitive data section, however, I do not have access to that.

Could you please change the access to the file so that anyone with the link can view the screenshot? That way, I would be able to assist you better.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

Yes, it seems that the problems in general are solved because now it seems that it does redirect from sitemap.xml to sitemap_index.xml.
It also loads fine with and without a slash, or so it appears in my browser.
This, without putting the code to correct the sitemap apache error. If not, please let me know.
But, I can’t force redirection of / at the end of the URL, this will give me duplicate content.
Is there any solution for it?
On the other hand, it doesn’t let me edit either the htaccess or the robots.txt file from the rankmatch SEO panel due to lack of write permissions. Is this a hosting thing?

Sorry, the new message, but indeed, when you redirect from sitemap.xml to sitemap_index.xml the styles are not loaded. Only if you include the / at the end of the URL.
I have tried to add the code of the link in htaccess and it does not solve it…

    Hello,

For you to be able to edit both .htaccess and robots.txt files in Rank Math’s settings page, you would need to remove their physical files in your website’s root directory.

As for your sitemap, it seems it is showing incorrect content.

Can you please follow these steps?

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

Let us know if that resolves the issue.

Looking forward to helping you on this one.

Hello, good afternoon. Thank you very much for your reply.

I have already followed the steps to exclude the sitemap.xml from the cache. I have modified it in both htaccess and w3 total cache.
It seems that the errors of not redirecting from sitemap.xml to sitemap_index.xml have been fixed.
But, I see two problems still:
    – Posts with redirection are included in the sitemap…
    – I can’t edit the robots.txt or htaccess file from the wordpress admin panel from rank match seo.

On the other hand, I do not have, nor did I have, any file uploaded to the root folder of my wordpress installation with the name of robots.txt. Htaccess yes, of course. But, I can’t remove it.

    Hello,

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section as instructed by my colleague in the previous reply.

We look forward to helping you on this one.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I tried to investigate this issue further but when I tried to log in to the site, the access was restricted.

Please have a look at the below screenshot –

    Access Restricted

It seems the firewall isn’t disabled yet. Could you please check and exclude India, Portugal, and the Philippines from getting blocked so that we can investigate further?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

Excuse me, you already have it ready.

    Hello,

We are still getting the error upon accessing your site:

    Access error

    Could you please check again?

    Thank you.

I have thanked asia/pacific area in case this is the case. I have also accepted Philippines, India and Portugal. Let me know if you’re still having problems. In principle, the countries you indicate are already accepted, plus the Asia/Pacific area.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

We can access your website now and verified the situation with your robots.txt and .htaccess. However, the FTP credentials you have provided are not working.

From the error message, it seems that the file editing was disabled by this rule in your wp-conifg.php file:

    define (‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, true);

Please check if this line exists, as it needs to be set to this so Rank Math can modify those files:

    define (‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, false);

For the post with redirections, could you please share those URLs so we can check them as well?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

Thank you very much for the reply. In my wp-config.php, that rule did appear. It is already solved and it seems that I can edit it. Thank you very much.

On the other hand, with the topic of redirections, I leave you with an example:
