For all the articles you have on configuring the site map there are none on how to add entries to the site map. You would think there would be a link in your tool but I cant find it.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to this issue.

If you want to create a custom sitemap and include it in Rank Math, you can follow this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/custom-sitemaps/

We hope this helps. Please let us know if you have further questions or concerns.

    Thank you.

No this is not what I want. I have already seen this article. How do I edit the existing site map. There should be a way to access the file but I cannot find the link. We are using BreakDance editor.

    Hello,

The sitemap generated by Rank Math is generated dynamically (on the fly) so that the contents are always fresh and updated. It is usually generated when requested and is not available as a static file. If you want to include custom URLs into it, you may have to follow the steps in this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/custom-sitemaps/

    We hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Well I was hoping there was a quick link, but suspected that they were created on fly. Actually, the site map does have all our url’s except the home page. Are they usually included?

Second question if I do add manually as the article suggest do I just add the missing ones? Or if I edit the file it will mess up the on the fly site map.

I appreciate you following up. Soon I would like to explore becoming a paying client. We are just getting the new site going and there is so much to do.

    Hello,

The homepage by default should be included in the sitemap if the option to include pages in sitemaps is selected in the Sitemap settings when the homepage is static and if the homepage is your latest posts when the option to include posts is selected.

The only other reason a page or post will not show up on the sitemap is that it has been set to noindex. Only pages/posts/CPTs with the robots attribute set to index are added to the sitemap.

As a reply to your other question; if you follow the guide correctly the sitemap shouldn’t break. Besides we are always here to help should you run into any challenge.

    We hope this helps.

    Thanks.

I checked each of the elements you highlighted and we are all good. Then I looked to make sure the home was not in site map (checked 3 times today), and it is not. I will try to add using the article provided on Mon. Any other ideas?

    Hello,

As a followup to this issue, you might want to go through this detailed article as to why your URL might not show up in the sitemap: https://rankmath.com/kb/url-not-in-sitemap/

    We hope this helps.

    Thanks.

I removed the cannonical tag in Rank Match Advanced Settings and the URL appeared in the site map. So I assume that though your tool supplies a place to enter a cannonical that this should not be used? I am confused as to why.

I want to follow up with the canonical issue. In the advanced tab of RM in WP the URL I want to use is greyed out, so I pasted in the proper address. It is an exact match yet when I update the page the URL is removed from the site map.

So the question is do I not need to explicitly set the canonical, the greyed out version is sufficient?

The problem is that I am not sure Google recognized the canonical. Some of our pages that are ranked are the www. version and this is not what we want.

    Any guidance?

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Yes, you’re correct. When you add a custom canonical under the Advanced tab, it won’t be included in the sitemap:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/url-not-in-sitemap/#custom-canonical-url

Rank Math, by default, automatically adds a self-referencing canonical URL to your site if they are set to index. So, you won’t need to fill/add the canonical URL there.

Please note that the canonical box’s purpose would be to inform search engines that it is a duplicate page and should not be indexed.

Here’s a link for more explanation on its usage:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/advanced-tab/#canonical-url

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the confirmation. I am used to having to explicitly define the URL, but doing auto is good. I am concerned as some pages are indexed using the www. version but our site is new and I am working in search console to resolve all these issues, hopefully over time Google will catch up. 🙂
