    Dear seo team,

it looks that we dont have good description designed.

usually i saw it empty in description review, so after i changed from wp-seopress to Rankmath, my traffic is getting down heavily. i got the problem when i review my articles and pages, that i can’t see a good description preview, i saw lots of empty.

if we have the fisrt paragragh written in a sentence which is less, not enough charactors for a description, does it use the second, third paragragh to make a good description?

is there any problem when i use %excerpt% post-exerpt for decription?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

The variable %excerpt% usually takes few words from your post’s first line/paragraph. You may refer to our KB here: https://rankmath.com/kb/variables-in-seo-title-description/#18-post-excerpt

Can you please share the affected URL with us so we can further check it on our end?

We are looking forward to helping you with this one.

but why it only take few word, as if we do it mannually to edit snippet, it requires
    159 / 160 (2226px / 920px), right?
if we do everything mannually, it takes time.

below are some tag links which i havn’t done the mannual editing for snippet:
    https://www.mgsh.com.cn/tag/%E5%94%AE%E5%90%8E%E6%94%AF%E6%8C%81
    https://www.mgsh.com.cn/tag/%e9%a1%b9%e7%9b%ae%e7%ae%a1%e7%90%86

and here is an article link:
    https://www.mgsh.com.cn/brand-info/mgsh-views-26391.html

at the beginning, i use %excerpt%, it doesnt show the description well, so latter i added others like %title% and %excerpt% which is not what we should only get.

and the problem is that, in general settings, it shows correct; but in the article settings, it shows wrongly as same as the viewsource model.

however, seo-press can do it automatically, to get enough description. we are in china, there is some network issue for me to use seo-press, so i changed to RankMath to try. the only problem now i got is the auto description doesn’t work well, and empty description is very bad for me.

    Hello,

    Thank you for the update.

I’ve checked the URLs you have shared, and they don’t have any description meta tags.

The %excerpt% variable will only get the description you have set in the Tags pages like this

    Tag

Could you please confirm if you have already filled this description box in your meta tags pages?

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

    Hello @Paweł Suracki,

We have responded to your ticket, you will receive an update for your request shortly.

    Thank you.

    yes, i know, thanks.

can it be modified that, if we don’t have the description, then SEO-tool can get the description from the blog-list by extract the first 100 words i.e.?

    Hello,

    Thanks for your reply.

The %excerpt% variable fetches the words from the description added to the tags.

Since the tag archives (blog lists) just display the list of posts belonging to that specific tag, the text from tag archives cannot be fetched.

You can add the descriptions to the tags and then use the %excerpt% variable to generate the meta description tag based on the added tag description.

Hope this clears things further and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any further assistance.

    Thank you.
