Creating new user agent

    Hi,

    Firstly thank you for your amazing plugin, it’s been a great help to me.

    I am contacting you as I saw in one of your posts that “If you are running W3 Total Cache along with Rank Math on your website, make sure you create another user agent group and add the ‘googlebot’ user agent to it.”
    I am currently running w3 total cache with Rankmath but have no idea how to create a new user agent group and how to add the Googlebot user agent to it.

    Do you please have a tutorial on how to do it?

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    You need to add this code:

    sitemap(_index)?\.xml(\.gz)?
[a-z0-9_\-]*sitemap[a-z0-9_\-]*\.(xml|xsl|html)(\.gz)?
([a-z0-9_\-]*)?\.xml

    to the following W3 Total Cache settings:
    1. Performance > Database Caching > Never Cache the Following Pages
    2. Performance > Minify > Never minify the following Pages

    Hi Jeremy,

    Many thanks for your help. I followed your advice and added the code.

    Can you just please confirm why it’s necessary to create another user agent group and add the ‘googlebot’ user agent to it ? Is it because this can cause W3 total cache or Rankmath to malfucntion? Does it cause issues with Google ? Will the plugins not function without it correctly…?

    Hello,

    Excluding bots makes sure that when Google crawls your site related pages, which includes your sitemap, it doesn’t get to crawl the cached version but the current existing version on your domain.

    Hope this clears this issue.
