Colons in Permalinks

How do I add a colon in the permalink? I tried to add a colon and it reverted to a different state. If I need to add something like 2:1 in the permalink, how do I do that? The Rank Math plugin also highlights that the focus keyword is not found in the URL when inserted without the colon. So what is the workaround here?

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with adding a colon to the permalink in Rank Math.

To add a colon or any special character like “2:1” to the permalink using Rank Math, you can follow these steps:

    1. Edit the post where you want to modify the permalink.
    2. In the Rank Math Meta Box, click on Edit Snippet.
    3. In the Snippet Editor, under the General tab, you can edit the permalink.
    4. Add “2:1” or any desired text including a colon to the permalink.
    5. Ensure to keep the permalink length below 75 characters for optimal SEO practices.

If you encounter any issues while adding a colon to the permalink, you can try using URL encoding for the colon. In URL encoding, a colon is represented as “%3A”. So, you can replace the colon with “%3A” in the permalink.

If the focus keyword is not being recognized in the URL without the colon, you can try adding it with URL encoding as mentioned above.

Feel free to give it a try, and if you need further assistance, please let us know by replying to this ticket.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.
