Changing the site slug multiple times results in problems

    Hi there,

I enabled ‘Auto Post Redirect’ in the redirection settings. If I change a slug from a page (and that page has parent pages) multiple times, that leads to wrong redirections.
Only the first redirection is created, then, more source urls are added to this redirection instead of newly created redirections.

    Best regards
    Sebastian

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I have tested this issue on my end but I am afraid that I could not replicate it. I went ahead and made 3 changes to the page slug of a child page but all the redirections work.
Could you please share a screen recording of the steps that you are taking so that we can investigate this further?

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Sebastian,

    Thanks for your patience.

Ideally, this type of redirection is handled internally by WordPress. You do not need to use Rank Math when editing the slug since WordPress now automatically redirects changes slugs to the correct page.

Rank Math is only needed when WordPress fails to redirect edited URLs.

When using Rank Math to change a URL multiple times – please delete the previous redirection to avoid redirection loops.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hi there,

thanks for your reply, but I think that’s not a good solution. Several problems:

    • The WP standard is only working, if I keep unlimited revisions. If I turn of revisions or keep only a few, WP standard redirection is not working
    • If the feature is not working correctly and the recommendation is, to use the WP standard, why should I enable this feature?
    • Everybody has to know about the problem and has to do manual steps

    Best regards
    Sebastian
