Changing Canonical & Resubmitting Sitemap

    Hello,

I have shortened the length of some of my URLs to bring them down to 75 characters or less. Do I also need to change the canonical of the URLs that have been shortened? Also, do I need to resubmit the sitemap to Google Search Console after having shortened/changed the URLs? The setting for automatic redirection has already been done in the Rank Math Plugin. Kindly advise and also let me know what else I should be doing so that everything goes smoothly?

    Thank you in advance,

    Gopi Mundkur

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

The canonical URL will be changed automatically, you don’t have to do that manually. You don’t have to resubmit the sitemap as Google will detect the changes once they recrawl the sitemap. Since the redirections have already been created, there is nothing else you need to do other than wait for Google to crawl the new URLs and index them.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

Thank you for a quick response and for the advise.
