My website got an amazing ranking on Google search console. But recently I am experiencing strange problem. Whenever I search for my keyword on Google it shows the Home URL and Home title on the search result. In the meta description, it shows my post description author name, and date. However, I do not write any text about the author’s name or date in the meta description. Please help me with a solution of this problem.

  • Hello,

We’re sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with your website’s search results. It sounds like Google is displaying your homepage URL and title instead of the post title in the search results.

To resolve this issue, you can start by ensuring that your homepage meta title is properly set to display your site name. You can also check the Open Graph metadata for your homepage to ensure it’s correctly configured.

If you’re using Rank Math, you can refer to this guide on setting a homepage meta title and description using Rank Math: Homepage Meta Title and Description using Rank Math.

Additionally, you may want to review the settings for your homepage in WordPress Dashboard → Settings → Reading to ensure that it’s configured correctly.

If you need further assistance with this issue, please feel free to assign this ticket to our support team using the available buttons, and we’ll be happy to help you further.

    Hello,

The screenshot you have shared is for the search result of the homepage, not a post. It has the same title you have set on your site. Your homepage is a collection of posts and has the post excerpt. Google is picking the excerpt from the page and ranking it for the keyword, and that’s why you are seeing the description of the post instead of the one you have set for the homepage.

You will have to work on improving the content of your post to rank it higher for the keyword instead of your homepage.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

How can i improve few days back my website is ranking for keyword and it is showing post title on search engine. But now it automatically shows Home title whenever i post any article. Please suggest me solution do i need to hide excrept or anything else.

    Hello,

I understand that you are facing an issue where Google Search Results display your domain as the site name instead of the actual site name.

There are various sources that Google uses to define your site name on SERPs:

    1 . og:site_name
    2 . WebSite structured data
3 . Content in title elements
    4 . Heading elements <h1></h1>

Rank Math automatically incorporates the og:site_name meta tag and the WebSite Schema on your page.

This aids Google in understanding and displaying your desired site name.

To address this and encourage Google to display the sitename instead of domain please follow these steps:

1 . Ensure that your website’s <title> tag on the homepage reflects sitename accurately.

2 . Update the og:site_name meta tag to add sitename within Rank Math settings.

3 . Double-check that your logo alt text and other significant areas on your site mention the sitename.

4 . Make sure internal links within your site use sitename rather than the domain.

5 . After making these adjustments, utilize the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to request indexing for your homepage.

6 . Ensure sitename is consistently represented across all online profiles, directories, and other platforms.

7 . If you’ve rebranded or changed the name in the past, verify there’s no legacy content , old sitemaps, or outdated pages sending conflicting signals to Google.

8 . Remember, you’ll need patience as Google re-crawls and re-indexes your site. It might take some time before these updates reflect in the SERPs.

It’s important to note that while these steps can guide Google, the final site name display in SERPs is determined by Google’s algorithm, based on what it deems relevant and user-friendly.

You can further understand this by reviewing Google’s documentation on site-name: Google Site Names Documentation.

We hope that helps, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

No, I am not facing such a problem. When I post an article and submit it on the Google search console after indexing when I search for the focus keyword that I wrote about in an article on Google here it does not show my post Title. Here it automatically shows my Home (Title)(Url). I have faced that problem recently, my website is showing my post title on Google and it was ranking within 5 results but this problem affected my site and now my article does not appear well on Google. Please help if you understand.

    Hello,

You can try to hide the excerpt or change it on the homepage post listings. You should also work on improving the content of your posts. Google is preferring your homepage over your posts for the keywords. This is related to your content optimization and overall SEO of your site.

Here are a few resources I think you will find useful while devising an SEO strategy and improving your site’s overall SEO.
