Hello,
Thank you for reaching out with your question about canonical tags. We understand your concern. In Rank Math, the default behavior is to set the post’s current URL as the canonical URL of the page. This means that even if you don’t manually set a canonical URL inside Rank Math, it will automatically use the post’s URL as the canonical URL.
The reason we mention leaving the canonical URL section blank in Rank Math is that in most cases, the default behavior of using the post’s current URL as the canonical URL works well. However, if you have specific requirements or want to point to a different URL as the canonical version, you can certainly do so by setting a custom canonical URL in Rank Math.
If you have successfully used canonical tags on another website to point to top-level pages and it returned as an OK canonical in Google Search Console, you can continue to use custom canonical URLs in Rank Math to achieve similar results. It’s all about flexibility and catering to different user preferences and scenarios.
If you have any more questions or need further assistance with setting up canonical URLs in Rank Math, please feel free to let us know. We’re here to help!
Thank you for raising this concern.
